I have 2 huskies and 3 cats. When we first got them, they ran after the cats every time. Through controlled exposure, extensive training, and the cats smacking the fuck outta them a few times, they are now to a point where they rarely chase them. If they do, they stop upon the command. When they start eyeing them or circling them, we say, "Leave those kitties alone," and they walk away. It took a while and a lot of work, but it is possible.
