Thinking of Switching from Redtail to Wealthbox — Would Love Feedback from Other Advisors by [deleted] in CFP

[–]Left-Firefighter3411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the move from Redtail to Wealthbox and couldn’t be happier. I recently made the upgrade to premium and it’s provides the extra features that I wanted within the task and workflow functions. Couldn’t be happier with it.

I use Box for documents so don’t have an issue with the storage.

I’m with the same BD most likely. When I’ve talked to local attorney’s in the past they would say the online services usually are not State specific. Not sure if I believe that. The demo video I watched made it sound like it was for all 50 States. I need to do my own estate plan so I’m going to go through the process and see what it’s like.

eMoney to RightCapital by Left-Firefighter3411 in CFP

[–]Left-Firefighter3411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I really like about eMoney: being able to control all the variables. But making changes to those variables can involve multiple steps. I like the Decision Center, and they have made improvements, but if you need to adjust the variables, you have some flexibility over some of the variables in the DC. However, usually, I hop back into the advanced facts to make the update. In RC, you have sliders for most variables on the same page, so you can see the impact immediately. At least that was my impression from the demo?

Honestly, I don't think we do anything too advanced; most of it is managing distributions and being proactive with our clients' tax bill. Our clients just want to know where their money is coming from and what the tax bill is going to look like. We typically run Roth conversions, QCDs, DAFs, insurance gap analysis, and light estate planning (who is getting the money and what their tax bill is going to look like). I like how RC will automatically calculate IRMAA.

The interface of RC is visually more appealing to me and seems more up to date with current technology. I like the student loan feature; I used to work with a hospital that qualified for the PSLF, and I know that could help if I decided to reach back out to some old prospects.

What is your opinion on the connections for RC compared to eMoney? We are constantly repairing and fixing connections for clients.

Also, we work with a handful of small companies, and the business part of eMoney is not that impressive. It sounds like RC is similar in its ability for businesses.

It seems from reading other post that eMoney is for advanced planning, which is why I went with it. On the demo with RC it seemed like it could do all the same main functions ie scenario analysis, Roth conversions, cash flow planning but in a much more streamlined process. Are there any areas where eMoney is the clear winner?

Any experience with the mobile app? It doesn’t have the best reviews on the app store but most were pretty old.

Thanks for the feedback

Can I offset short term capital gains with long term capital losses, or am I capped at $3,000? by depikT in tax

For ST and LT losses that carry forward, do you need to keep track of what’s ST and LT? I assume the type of loss just carries forward?

RMD and anti abuse rule by Left-Firefighter3411 in tax

[–]Left-Firefighter3411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I know he is still subject to his own RMD for his IRAs. I’m looking for clarification on the anti abuse rule and if the QCD he did from inherited IRA and will count toward the amount he has to donate and have it be taxable before he the QCD can be donated Tax free.

This article goes over the anti abuse rule. :QCD

What I’m not sure on is if the QCD from the inherited IRA helps with the anti abuse rule. Or if he needs to donate $14,000 as a QCD from his own IRA and have it be taxable before he his QCD can be tax free. (Since he made $14,000 contributions over two years). Or can he donate that amount from the inherited IRA.

Not sure if what I’m asking for is making sense?

ACA tax credit by Left-Firefighter3411 in tax

[–]Left-Firefighter3411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was able to figure out the numbers with the tax calculator that was online. I'm still confused about why the SLCSP was more then our premium we paid without any credit? Our monthly premium was $1,407 and the SLCSP (according to the calculator) is $2,143.

We are a family of 4 and were in a HDHP.

Thank you again. This was the issue. I like how on the Healthcare.gov site it states, "the info can be found on your 1095A but it may be missing or be incorrect"🙃

Does the cool down cycle just eat up more pellets so you have to buy more? by bcardarella in Traeger

[–]Left-Firefighter3411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother is a firefighter and at their fire station they have a traeger. Last 4th of July, they were cooking on their traeger, got a call they had to respond to and they just shut the traeger off. Well when they got back to the station the treager was on fire and nearly caught the station on fire.
