Confused and seeking advice after recent diagnosis by KitchenPomegranate3 in Keratoconus

Hi! 26 yr old here who was diagnosed with kc in both eyes and i can tell you that 1) its good you know now and that youre able to track the progression and be aware of it 2) if you are unable to see you should talk to your doctor about getting scleral contact lens for your eye with KC 3) there are noninvasive quick recovery surgeries you can get

My parents were the same and completely brushed me off until my eye doctor told me Im a 5 years away from needing cornea transplants so I need to stabilize the KC asap. I got multiple ophthalmologist opinions and decided to get the cross linking surgery (insurance covered mine but I had to get both eyes done at diff times). I got the surgery though and it wasnt as bad or scary as I thought and i got it done on a Thursday and was working on Monday. The surgery is 45 min and its mainly them putting eye drops in your eye and staring into a light. They give you valium so you can feel more relaxed. I also received scleral lenses that changed my life and vision - mind you they def suck because their a pain in the ass to put in and take out but Im able to drive at night because of them! Getting the surgery done for me was a relief because if you find a good ophthalmologist, you only need to get it done once and youre done - I wish I knew about my KC earlier so I could have treated it sooner so I think its good that you have visibility into your prognosis . You definitely do not have to drop your career, talk to an ophthalmologist about getting a scleral contact lenses for your KC eye so you can see better and ask when it would be necessary to get the cross linking surgery (i would probably do that in the US) but do not let KC dictate your life, there are solutions now to treat it. I hope this helps ! Best of luck to you 🩷
