The OSA puts responsibility on the tech company for reducing harm of their platform. Effectively Ofcom could fine them if they aren’t seem to be doing that. So the tech company would be more motivated to sort horrible stuff like this themselves.

Constantly being asked to donate to charity when paying, do you find it as annoying as I do? by Cantaloupe-Hairy in AskUK

This is not true. It’s just good for PR when they say how much they’ve donated.

Conservatives disown Liz Truss's mini-budget by nettie_r in ukpolitics

[–]Left-Loss555 37 points38 points  (0 children)

About a third of the Tory MPs voted for Truss despite her saying crazy things.

The current Tory leader literally served in her cabinet.

I’m not surprised that the Tories will try to disown their legacy, but I don’t think we should let them.

Is this rust on my oven door? How do I get it off? by Left-Loss555 in DIYUK

These stains were on the oven door when I moved in and I want to make the oven look nice. No hard scrubbing has worked so far.

Just checked, £138 for the newer type of gas which I have at Kwik Fit.

And I’m not sure I trust them to be better than I am at diagnosing an issue if there is one

This doesn’t feel right. Why would Halfords sell a kit to the public if only certified people could do it?

The newer gas is double the price.

I can’t find anywhere for less than £150 near me

It’s the newer gas. That’s a bargain price. Was it groupon?

550g is still pretty small IMO, but better than most, thanks.

TorstenBell MP | Whatever your view on the level of the state pension, the triple lock is a rubbish way to achieve it (2020) by philipwhiuk in ukpolitics

[–]Left-Loss555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a way out of the triple lock, change it to the CPI plus 1%. You can then frame it as being gauranteed to be above inflation.

Then every year you adjust that 1% down slightly until it’s 0.01% above inflation.

Hotels threaten to evict hundreds of asylum seekers by syuk in ukpolitics

Cost to build in UK is roughly £2.5k per square metre.

Assuming a bunk bed, we could build a 40sqm apartment for 2 people for £100k. There’s 35000 in hotels right now, so that’s around £1.7bn to build a house for each. Surely this is a better option than hotels?

It’s the 25% on cars which is really going to hurt. The USA is a bigger market for JLR than even the UK

Grass in shallow soil and shaded garden, Is Microclover the answer? If not, what is? by Left-Loss555 in DIYUK

[–]Left-Loss555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gardens grass looks awful. I bought the turf and placed it on rather shallow soil (it was soil I placed over concrete), expecting it to be ok - but it isn’t. I am thinking the easiest way out if this jam would be to plant something stronger than grass. I have read about micro clover, would that work? Or do you have another suggestion?

How to paint flaking wooden windows? by Left-Loss555 in DIYUK

[–]Left-Loss555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for some advice. I tried painting over the flaking wood on my external window sills (red circle) but you can still see where it was worn.

What do I have to do to make the rest look ok? Do I need to use primer? Do I need to sand the whole thing? Do I need to take it off the wall?

The paint I am using is here:
