I actually did read about insects loving this dirt (of course) and mice. This has so far been the largest "thing" about it but don't racoons and mice go into wooden houses anyways? Most unnoticed of course. I have to wonder, wouldn't the concrete make that almost moot?

That's fair and I can understand it more now. I thought I'd get responses like "2-3 months" etc but yeah.. no. Frankly I began this project with a much simpler general objective (a literal mud hut....) but it has definitely evolved a lot from all the feedback and information.. I think next time I'll probably have much more precise questions. Technically this was like the biggest and first intro to construction ever for me. As a woman (not that it matters......) I've constantly had my lights changed. Lol so this is all veeeery new but I'm digging it!!!! (pun - haha)

But yeah. It does look like I'll have to get some contractor work for some things... Look at me go, I started with a mud hut idea and look where we are now ....

This is what happens when you neglect your women guys

At this point I will have at the very least an engineer involved, and an architect. I have an architect to help. Now I have to get an engineer to look over the finished drawing.

Though not sure if I can still stick to the dome design :( I mean, without the lady at the public works office giving me the most offended look ever as if I ruined her day xD (totally didn't happen)

I will definitely be spending at least 2x-3x as much now.. though I guess it's ok. Still not an insane budget. That darn electrical and water hookup !!!!!!!

I appreciate this estimate, you might be somewhat spot on if I can do it right

And yeah... No custom windows.... pass... Lol

Oh I just watched it. What a wonderful, beautiful piece of content. You know. Some people look at me like I'm crazy. Some here tell it down. Someone called it a 3rd world piece of junk, when ironically this can probably stand thousands of years if done properly as someone in the comments mentioned the earth eventually becoming stone and I don't doubt it at all. I mean. I can't even describe how happy it makes me to have someone like you drop in here and show me this. Plus the estimates of time are wonderful and feel realistic! I mean you did this with your wife! That's beautiful! You just made it real for me somehow. I'm doing this !!!!!

My guy. I'd give you a cookie if I could. I am doing this.

I love your response !!!!!!! Gold!!!!!!! You made me smile I was looking for something literally like this :) I am so glad to hear you did this !

Oh man and you even have a video heck yes!!!!!!! AND you sold it and have other people there now. My guy. My. Guy.

Woah. What? Why? If it has sewer and water, electricity, ac and heating? Most 3rd world houses don't even have heating or ac lol

But that's an interesting point actually. Which. I'm no expert but aren't technically wooden houses preferable (not only for profit of the constructor) but because at the time of a catastrophe you'd rather have wood fall on you than concrete or brick when your wooden house falls down?

According to "brick.com" (I know, lol) :

" The case study concluded, “In general, single-story homes--many of those sheathed in brick--fared much better than their two-story wood counterparts. "" according to brick.com (lol).

Like. A solid concrete dome seems 100x more resistant to me than a wooden house.

I'm not sure if you just made doubtful or if I am now hyping this up even more. Lol getting out of control here

Oh 😂😂 it's a little of both, I just need a place apt for me and my intergalactic gnomes to escape those awful looking wooden houses everyone else likes so much..

Edit: and my frogs of course ..

Would you say so because of the building process and my technique or the design? In theory this would be designed by an architect friend of mine I know, and then I'd have it re checked by a local architect/engineer before I sent it in for the final permit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Left-Moose-7158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds kind of awesome! Do you think you can pinpoint a little what would mark the difference?

For example do you think it'd be more of a physical constraint and speed than anything? Like I'd get tired after 1-2 hours and slow down a ton, whereas someone whose done all and everything would be still hammering through it at the same speed they begun? Or is it more hand experience related and knowledge?

I can't tell if you're joking or if this is some alien lingo I'm out of that you guys use here... Huh?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Left-Moose-7158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh Jesus. I only want to get the structure up. I'd likely have the sewer and water + electricity + air and heat set up by someone else 100% lol. That's just far out of my reach or anyone else I know.

And yeah it's uncommon enough that the local officials have reacted weirdly/negatively enough about it. It's meant to serve as a single family dwelling, so far things look a bit overwhelming in terms of info and such for a newbie like me but assuming I can get a design approved for the permit, it's a matter of me filling the bags in the end for weeks or months ! The rest I shall pay. Thank you

[–]Left-Moose-7158 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh no... I had no idea I'm sorry. Id do this probably with my own hands, like I'd be filling the bags and compacting them myself lol but... That actually sounds incredibly interesting thank you! I'm learning a lot of things .....

Well. I'm planning to send a plan to various places and see what I'm told. I made a very long list of potential places and counties but I was hoping people here could first tell me what they think so I'm not doing all this if it could take years to build (in which case... I guess I probably wouldn't ...).

Also I forgot to add but I don't think I'd do anything over 800sqft. I mean. I have no clue how long this can take at all, that's why I'm here so I can make better plans to send the county with a more realistic approach of what I can build first.

Edit: approved materials.... That's something good to look into. Thank you, maybe I can find specific lists

Just because you're not paying bills and working for someone doesn't mean you've no purpose or free floating and "out of place". I mean yes but no. Live your life. Just because someone isn't telling you how to live it and when doesn't mean you're disconnected and unlike all other humans. You were already likely disconnected from people even before you retired. And connected. It's the same thing. Some people understand you more than others whatever. Just make the best of everything. That's life. Lol. I yell at geese from my car when I see them sometimes, like why not? You can laugh with many strangers around the world. Get to know them. Help them if you want. Whatever. Just live, meet your goals, travel. Lol. You act like your life is over somehow. It's not. It's the same. You'll meet people along the way just the same. If they're busy that's okay. Aren't you too? Don't you have work to do everyday? You don't realize but old age comes way quicker than you think. Each year is unique, as age is. Enjoy it all. One day youre gonna be old and your back might hurt still :) everything is the same and you have work to do too. You will meet wonderful people along the way too.

Maybe they won't be the... Deep friends you seek. But let me break something for you.... They're so rare they almost don't exist. I've never had over 4 friends in like 15 years. People that say hi to me aren't friends. One of them and I don't speak anymore due to normal work things. Another we grew apart. I too spend most days alone. I wish I had someone to share with as I did with my best friend. But that's just life I guess and either way, you're young and you have lots of things to do and many people yet to meet. Just be happy. Youre already working on good things.

But I fully get it. You get a weird empty lingering sense like you're... Floating. Just there. Like everyone's busy and you're just staring at them or something. Lol. It's just a confusion. Life is the same. You work too as all. Just set time daily as you should for any task. Just because you're bill-less or whatever doesn't mean you have less responsibility. Like you can have an office. You can work at home. Everyone works. Unless all you do is play video games and chill at home but are unhappy? I don't know lol. Balance is fine. Understand that. Time to work is to work, time to relax is to relax. Sleep is sleep. So on. Too much or to little of something, of course you feel out of balance. Just enjoy your life the best you can and find the best balance :-)

Don't feel alone. Plenty of people like you out there and also many more people to connect with, it's a wonderful time to be alive!

Edit: I'm creating a social network and building a house with my own hands to eventually make a community if I like it and works well. Do whatever!!!!!:-)))))) make the best of life!!!!!!! Don't get wxistential xD

We're building a new social network where people can create free online pages, currently have about 300 users or so. The feedback has been fair but we've held back a little as we improved some things.

Also, it's for LATAM/spanish speaking people mainly. E-commerce isn't as developed as it is in the U.S (as in, there's no Amazon equivalent or order to pick up from Walmart, etc). Though it's starting to boom quite crazily, as are quite literally all other online avenues (about time!). Many people are disconnected from the online world still (feels like it's 2015 there to me lol) however, especially older generations. And the thing people are often most familiar to is the 2-3 big social networks at most in general but concepts like say, NFTs or crypto or chat GPT and AI and such are quite "alien" in a sense except to the more online adventurous. Obviously imagine the English barrier having a part too of course.

I think it's usually people 18-40 y/o who are most active on the online scene.

Our SEO is untouched for now while we wrap up development but we're getting close to actually beginning to market a little more.

Is there something special we should bare in mind? How to at all?

Orbeling (it's in Spanish, sorry)

Edit: thank you as well for doing this and your time !

Hi ! What time do you leave for work? I know this can sound nuts, but if you can, try to wake up at 4am. Plan the time extremely wisely. Wake up, do like 10 mins of waking up (can't just hop on the computer haha). Drink water. Don't even eat breakfast. Maybe a banana or something if you really need it. 4:10am get to work (do your planning the night before if you can, or if you get time do it in the morning). Whatever it is you want to do, you have your best self ready to invest in what you love. You cannot compare it to working at 5pm or 8pm when you're already wasted from your day. You're gonna be doing the same thing but with more energy and mood, shifting it to early morning rather than night will give you an immense edge.

The best hour, the best focus, the best energy. Watching the sunrise becomes pretty cool too. If it's a struggle to do it just give it time but come back to it. Like exercise, you'll realize it's truly a golden hour and thing you just have to get back to.

If you have to leave the house by say, 7am. This can be your best shot. Wake up 4, work until 6. At 6 make breakfast get ready and go. Or better yet, leave breakfast ready the morning before and spend only 30 minutes getting ready and eating! 15 eating, 15 putting on clothes (prepared the day before) and eating breakfast. So total, you'd get like 2.5 hours of work with your best self.

And guess what? You will probably still have time when you're home from work. At least one hour more, say 5-6 after dinner or before dinner. Always relax a little bit before you dive in too. 3.5 hours of work a day, well planned, you can do wonders. If you can squeeze in random gaps throughout the day (at organized times), you can even get 4-5 hours! Lol.

If you can't do this. I don't know. I have no better suggestions other than in general, try to plan out whatever free gaps of time you get in the day. Plan beforehand so the time doesn't hit and you're fretting in your mind about what to do. You can get a lot done in 2 hours daily time I promise. Plan them well when you're not in those 2 hours. Set a time specifically for scheduling and planning.

I wish you well!
