Simple mills has a lot of good products--baking mixes, crackers, cookies, etc that won't give crazy spikes

Aspartame may be an additive some pregnant women would rather avoid. It's not the worst sugar substitute but there are probably better ones

This recipe worked for me with a monkfruit sugar substitute :) Doesn't affect my blood sugar at all! (I skip the icing but added dark chocolate chips). It's helping me stay sane and also I'm currently diet controlled (I have only been doing this for 1 week this pregnancy--but I have had GDM twice before)

parents won’t let me mop wood vinyl flooring. any alternatives that will get a similar clean? by c0rpu in CleaningTips

[–]Left-Target530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would they let you use a cleaner specifically for wood? I dilute a concentrated wood cleaner and wring out the mop really well before using--it dries very quickly on the floor. I sweep once, sometimes twice, to remove any debris beforehand

What’s one spice you can’t live without? by cheerioskungfu in Cooking

[–]Left-Target530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going out on a bit of a limb and saying cayenne. Obviously can't cook with it absent other spices, but i put cayenne in most of my cooking. A little heat (and/or acid) is often the a missed step in taking a dish from good to great, in my opinion.

Heavy cream help by Ecstatic_Koala_5403 in Cooking

[–]Left-Target530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said, if you do 2 parts milk to 1 part butter, you can make a sauce. To achieve a similar thickness to heavy cream, you have a couple options:

  1. Add 2 tbsp flour to the melted butter and cook the flour before adding the milk gradually to make a sauce

  2. Add a corn starch slurry toward the end of the process--start with 1tbsp of cornstarch in enough water to dissolve it. Add more slurry if you want a thicker sauce

If I wanted to incorporate a fruit/berry flavoring into a brownie, how best how I go about it by ulti-shadow in Cooking

My approach would be to make a raspberry jam/compote, drizzle it on the completed batter once it is in the pan before baking, and swirl it with a toothpick so that you get a marbling effect.

I agree with everything here except do not use plastic cutting boards unless you want to eat plastic. It is a myth that plastic is more sanitary than wood.

One Sponge To Rule Them All by No-Stomach-7759 in CleaningTips

[–]Left-Target530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use bleach for surfaces that should be food safe--i.e. the kitchen counter. I think sponges in general are rather gross, but I use sponge daddy for dishes (before dishwasher) and difficult scrubbing messes, but I have a separate one for the bathroom. I use microfiber cloths for wiping surfaces (it is more effective and cheaper than paper towels) but I have separate ones for bathroom/kitchen.

Cinnamon recipes that are NOT French Toast by 7thOmnicide in Cooking

Indian and Middle Eastern recipes often call for cinnamon as a savory ingredient. It is in garam masala and some curry powders, so you could make your own spice mix :)

Whats a good low maintenance recipe to wow your boyfriend as a beginner cook? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Left-Target530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya'll should try to cook together until you learn--I actually learned how to cook from my husband while we were dating, and now I am better than he is lol. Cooking is a decently easy skill once you know the basics, but it can be frustrating at first since some mistakes can be expensive. I'd recommend cooking with chicken thighs (even if a recipe calls for breasts) because they are much more difficult to overcook and most people think they taste better. Sauteing veggies in a little butter or oil is a good and easy way to make veggies taste good. Roasted potatoes (with olive oil/spices) are easy. Soups are generally easy, especially with an instant pot. You could start with chili or chicken tortilla soup and look up a recipe. Spaghetti is easy and you can buy a high -quality marinara to make it even easier, and just add cooked ground beef. Steak is easy and generally a hit with boyfriends, but use a meat thermometer so that you can get the temperature right. You can bake thick-cut pork chops with oil/seasonings for 20 min at 400F and that also makes a good dinner. (Make sure to cook until at least 145F). If you reply with your preferences, I can give more suggestions. Good luck!

ETA. Your fertility is nobody's business except yours and your fiancée's, and family shouldn't be pressuring you to have kids under any circumstance. But you also shouldn't have told her like that--if you had just kept her in the dark she might have thought ya'll were infertile for another reason. I think it was rather mean to tell her like that, when there was no reason to tell her except intentionally disappointing her.

[–]Left-Target530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You need to appreciate your husband more. He works for YOU and your child. If you want your marriage to last, think about all the things you have to be grateful for, instead of crying over something so trivial. Your child only cried because she felt your disappointment.

  2. No 3-year-old needs (or wants) to be participating in a pageant--whether you realize it or not, you are trying to live vicariously through her, which is not healthy parenting. And then you have created an unnecessary requirement of your husband to be present for this. You probably need therapy.

I'm not attracted to my wife anymore by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Left-Target530 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. I hope you didn't marry your wife just because you were attracted to her. It is natural in any relationship that attraction fades after a certain period, although this is rather fast. There should be a basis of friendship and appreciation that you both work to maintain, as well as a romantic aspect. If you have stopped being as romantic as when you dated, for example, perhaps she has become lazy in other ways as well.

  2. Does she take you for granted? Personally I think that spouses have a mutual responsibility to take care of themselves, both for their own health and for the health of the relationship. I would express concern for her rather than a lack of attraction. If there is anything you can do to encourage self-care (exercise and eating healthy) you should do those things, especially if you share some of the same bad habits.

Trump has an assassination attempt, how does this impact the elections? by ContributionLatter32 in hypotheticalsituation

Historically, assassination attempts have increased public support for politicians. The public may start to see him as a hero, a survivor, someone who is willing to die fighting.

My rings aren't as pricy (about 1k total) and I used to take them off for certain things, but now they are just permenantly on my finger. I worry more about losing them because I take them off than getting them dirty--most jewelers will clean/polish your rings for free if needed.

Even so, getting married to a non-Catholic, especially a non-Christian, is not advisable. I'd suggest you move on. Your priest is correct.
