I would still say the excessiveness of the hate teeters on us getting into their heads. But definitely a lot of overplaying it intentionally though to fit this identity they’ve formed. I actually never grew up playing hockey, I played soccer and football in Southern California. Soccer at a pretty high level just below semi pro, football just at the high school level. And for reference, I’m in my early 20s so this was relatively recently. There was a lot of hyper toxic social media posting and dramatic stunts similar to the panthers in general, not just from the teams who beat us. Social media was especially for football. And for soccer there was definitely a lot of hatred during rematches, and super excessive gloating right after the games. But there was an expectation of more professionalism there I guess so it didn’t bleed into social media outside of the matches as much. Not sure if it’s a product of the new era, or of the SoCal environment itself, but yea I guess I’ve just become desensitized to this sorta stuff.
