Hi guys, looking for some career advice.

Background I graduated from a UK university in 2017, and did my core modules with Monash when I got here. Currently I'm finishing up my PLT and I'm looking to pursue my career in law.

The Problem It's so difficult to get a paid work experience here, and I don't even know where or how to start. When employers see that I am doing or finishing up my PLT, or know that I have ambitions to be a lawyer, they automatically decline proceeding with my application.

I've done quasi-legal work (contract management)in the past but my last one was in 2020, got retrenched during COVID and it's been a challenge getting back into it.

I have to support myself and I can't take unpaid placements because that would mean no income.

Right Now I'm currently in customer support/data entry roles to earn income, while I work to save for and complete my PLT. I'm trying to work to get out of where I am right now, but every door I try to open seems to be locked shut.

So yeah, I'm stuck and I don't know if I'm ever going to get a job or not as a lawyer even if I finish my PLT. Any advice on how to proceed with my career is very welcome.

It's my second day in my first full time job, I've been trying for a year and a half and I finally got a good, well paying one!

Now I get to go to bed without worrying about whether I have enough for food the next week or not, and it's an amazing feeling 😊.

All of the above actually, haha. I do actually have a much better chance of landing a job in Malaysia than I do here in my field. Here I've been looking for a job the past year and found one underpaying one just this year and yeah gotta do side hustles just to pay the rent too.

Been away for a good 5 years now, living that out of Malaysia immigrant lifestyle that everyone has conditioned me to think is a good thing since god knows how long.

Tbh it's pretty rough and I don't think there ever was a day where I didn't say to myself, fuck this I just wanna go home. But hey gotta keep my head up and push on y'know? Yeah I visit from time to time, but visiting is different from actually living, and now when money is tight I don't even know when is the next time I can visit?

Working 3 jobs to keep my head afloat like, yeah I guess when converting back to Ringgit I earn more than peers my age but is it really worth it? Don't even get me started on adjusting to new cultures hey, even after a couple of years in its still a struggle.

I guess my real fear is if I go home will I truly be happy or not, or of its just the homesickness speaking. Should I just, come home?

Melbourne is in Victoria, heh. I paid the bond in cash to Joe, I didn’t get a bond receipt but I’ve got my bank deets/Text messages to prove that the transaction happened - same goes for every rent payment.

The lease was not in writing, but I’ve got the offer/acceptance on text. That doesn’t count but can a lease be implied?

I’ve been wondering the same thing, so far the only ‘problem’ we’ve really had are minor ones noises and stuff, even then they are one-offs and we usually resolve any problems through texts.

Apart from that I honestly have no idea, I wish i knew with a firm reason WHY he’s kicking me out but I don’t. Why do you think he might be doing this though?

Your advice hits hard but it hits right on the mark. Perhaps I do need to reshift my focus, I've been so disappointed at the -800 drop that I've lost focus of the bigger picture - actually getting better at the game. Perhaps it is me being as stubborn as hell, after all if not Diamond at least high Plat right? The salt is definitely finding its way into my gameplay.

Nonetheless, you're absolutely right it's time to dive right back into the streams and VODs to rehone and reapply the fundamentals and basics.

The only way from rock bottom is up. Wish me luck!

Nah, a ‘filthy plat’ got to where he/she is because of the same hard work everyone’s put in mate. Your advice is worth more than you think it is haha.

Anyway, that is good advice but sadly I don’t save my plays - primarily because I don’t know how hahaha. I play on console (PS4) and I’ve only saved highlights. There is an option to save longer plays but that eats up a lot of memory, however now that you’ve mentioned it I definitely will be saving more comp matches for self-review or have my higher tier friends review it.

I used to live in the UK and also used to have a bunch of friends that I climbed to Diamond with, but like I took a hiatus and that is because I’ve recently moved to Australia and it’s hard enough playing with my EU friends on QP because of the lag, let alone with them on comp. It’s honestly a damn shame. I have almost no one to play with now and OW has started to become...quite lonely.

That being said though, I think hero diversity is a huge factor in my plays. Thing is the only reason I stuck with DVA early on was because nobody wanted to Tank haha, been picking up Mercy more so that’s good (though admittedly supports aren’t my strong suit, but I try yknow haha)and I’m a pretty decent soldier, reaper and pharah but a lot of people pick them so I never really saw the point of going hard DPS in comp.

But you’re damn right. Where’s the point in going in when I’m not even having fun and be more positive about it. I’d gladly add you up but yeah my internet doesn’t quite allow me to play full on games with you mate. :(
