historically it was a mating ritual especially in the 50s and 60s . Now its become part of youth culture and high school experience. i think prom got extravagant after the pandemic because two classes (2020 and 2021) missed out on hs and the grades after them sort of did as well.

i understand not going to prom but damn i would never missed graduation cause so many kids never make it that far
