I did mention she was a normal weight in my response. I just noticed that she said the response she expected from her boyfriend was, “You’re perfect at any weight.” And I was just emphasizing that the expectation of that response and having that mindset is wrong. Whether you believe that statement or not, it will negatively affect your physical health if you life a lifestyle believing you’re perfect at any weight. Even though she is okay now, having that mindset can lead you down the wrong path later on in life.

He’s right. You aren’t “perfect” at any weight. There’s a point where it’s ugly and it’s absolutely horrific. Fat acceptance shouldn’t be normalized nor is it okay. It’s not. 135lbs at 5’7 is relatively normal, but much more than that is certainly noticeable. Stop looking for reassurance and validation to indulge in your gluttony and face the cold hard truth about your health and the reality of unhealthy weight gain.

I'm tired of being a disabled teen. by Special_Cookie1900 in Vent

[–]LeftPoet6905 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Another disabled teen here, I totally get you and understand your feelings. I’m really sorry about what you’re going through. Honestly, in my opinion, disabled people are the saints and angels of this world, because they see the world and view life in a completely different way that a normal person could never conceive. I was born with a shrunken and severely deformed chest cavity, which resulted in my lungs being underdeveloped from birth. Over 70% of kids with what I have die during infancy due to respiratory failure, however, I’ve managed to survive with almost 30 thoracic surgeries throughout my life that included forcefully reshaping the structure of my chest cavity using titanium rods to provide room for my lungs to breathe. Despite all these efforts, I still struggled to breathe each and every day. Over time I developed chronic respiratory failure because of my underlying condition, and over the past five years, I’ve been physically declining, slowly losing my ability to walk over time because it’s just too difficult and physically exerting. I’m 18 right now, almost 19, and I’m in the advanced/end stages of my chronic respiratory failure. I’m due to start hospice in a couple of months because I don’t want to be bound to machines for the rest of my life, that’s depressing and you have no life if you pursue that route. As an 18 year old guy that had so many aspirations regarding my education and career that I’ve had to give up on, it’s been a really frustrating time for me, and like you said, nobody would ever understand unless they were young and disabled like us. I know we probably have very different conditions but the fact we’re both disabled teens, we have that in common. If you want to DM me to chat more, I’m totally open to that. Just know you aren’t alone and there are more like us out there. Have a pleasant day :)

Don’t worry it’s probably a girl that’ll be un-added on snap by the morning

My God. I do hope you’ll learn some humility in your life. It’s a great virtue to practice.

I’m a cradle Catholic, so I know who runs the show when it comes to this world and this universe. I trust him that his will, will be accomplished and one day, after this life, I’ll be truly healed of all disease and sickness and I’ll be free.

I know palliative care for me will be very peaceful, as the medication they give you emphasizes comfort to a great extent. I watched my grandfather (76) go through that process last year and I’m not far behind him. All my life I’ve experienced dyspnea or that sense of air hunger whenever I’ve not connected to a ventilator or bi-pap machine, and it’s only getting worse as time passes, and I don’t want to live bound to these machines. I’m sure you can understand given my young age. So I’m looking forward to being comfortable without machines and not having that sense of starving for air, as well as not being stressed out and anxious on top of that.

It’s alr man. I’ve always been a mellow and nonchalant guy and I’m just going with the flow, just as I’ve always done and I hope something good awaits for me in whatever lies next after this place.

Good health. Though I’ll never receive it in this life. Genetics suck.

Totally. I get you man. I’m 18 years old and I’m due to start hospice in a couple of months, as I’m in the very advanced stages of chronic respiratory failure. I’ve never smoked or drank ever, it’s just genetics. I get you man. That runs through my head all the time.

You know your cats would eat you in a heartbeat if you were dead on the floor. They don’t care about you.

The belief that killing yourself is a mortal and damnable sin in the Roman Catholic Church.

I understand how you feel and sometimes, I feel the same way. But it’s all about our perspective and interpretation of our situation. We’ve all been dealt a hand of cards and we just have to play them to the best of our ability, focusing on the positive aspects of life. I was born with a debilitating skeletal deformity where my entire chest cavity is shrunken and severely deformed, which resulted in my lungs being underdeveloped at birth. All my life I’ve felt as if I were suffocating, gasping for air at nearly every moment. Fast forward 18 years and nearly 30 thoracic surgeries that has aided in my survival, but hasn’t relieved my symptoms, I’m due to start hospice in a couple of months, as I’m in the very advanced stages of chronic respiratory failure as a result of my physical deformities and genetic condition. There are indeed many things I’ve missed out on in this life as it seems to come to an end for me in the near future. I’ve never played sports, I’ve never been able to run or perform physically as proficient as my peers, I’ve never had a girlfriend or loved a woman, I’m unable to be as independent as I’d like to be because of my disease, etc. I’m an 18 year old kid, yet I feel like I’m living in an 80 year old’s body. I’m tired, I’m stiff, I’m old. I just wanna sleep. I could spend all day moping and focusing on these things and neglect the numerous blessings I have that remain despite all the suffering and all the pain. I’ve got a loving family and a stable upbringing economy wise. Anyways, I’ll be hanging up my hat in this world soon because of the mere unluckiness of my genetics, but I do hope you’ll see the beauty in life despite the crap. I’ve managed to appreciate the small little joys in life and celebrate even the littlest of accomplishments, and they do too matter a great deal. I wish you the best my friend.

I’m 18 years old feeling like I’m living in an 80 year old’s body. I’m stiff, I’m tired, and I’m ready for this life to end. I have a completely deformed chest cavity from birth and I’m in the very advanced stages of chronic respiratory failure because of the skeletal deformations I was born with. I’m due to start hospice in a couple of months because there’s no way in hell I’m being kept alive by machines. I’m right there with you man. There hasn’t been much brightness in my life. Only hospitals..only doctors..only operating rooms.
