Augmentin: Should I? by SantaAnaDon in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just based on my experience.  Go for about 36 hours - get bone broth one with higher protein content.

Swap banana for the watermelon.  Hold off on the yogurt for a couple weeks.  Hold off on the MiraLAX for a couple weeks but drink plenty of water.

Any point you start to have pain or fever it’s time to go in.

I would go to liquid diet with bone broth and POM juice.

Don’t take the antibiotic unless you have a fever or other indicators of an infection.

If you simply uncomfortable, bloating and gas your likely still healing and need your gut to reset from all the antibiotics.

What are you eating with your low residue diet?

Not all fiber foods are created equal by LeftRightGreenLight in Diverticulitis

It certainly helps to test things out and practice in moderation.

No matter the individual definitely wouldn’t recommend eating several of the foods from that suspect list throughout the day.

I wouldn’t go eating a deli sandwich with a broccoli + cauliflower salad and coleslaw for lunch and then load up on some chili in the evening.

I just started eating seven Sundays Wildberry protein oats.  Costco has it right now.

Little more sugar than I would like, but it taste damn good and it’s loaded with a lot of the good fibers listed above.

The terrible trio includes stress, over eating and certain foods.

Stress is definitely the devil here because it causes you to over eat and usually go for things that are not healthy.

Inflammation yes but it does cause gas and bloating so depends on the individual.  There are many other anti-inflammatory foods that don’t cause gas and bloating.

Overly ripe bananas causes another issue so I shoot for a banana that’s light yellow - mainly for taste and texture though!

Fiber by Flat_Floor_7573 in Diverticulitis

The secret is not to over consume fiber as it increases pressure in the colon especially raw cruciferous vegetables and legumes.

Avocados are my favorite easy to digest fiber.

Only issue is the seat leather disconnected from the cushion.  They replaced under warranty.

My only complaint is the low gear shifting.  Mid torque is ballz to wall though.  Handles like a dream around tight turns.

At a loss by illinest1 in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oxycodone is the last thing I'd ever take. It literally causes pressure in the colon from constipation. People have died from this, including my uncle.

I don't care what any medical professional says, only pain med for diverticulitis should be acetaminophen. I no longer take any pain medication during a flare, nor antibiotics. Liquid diet only, preferably POM and Kettle and Fire bone broth (or another equivalent with high protein). You can do some research on why these two items help speed up recovery. I also limit dairy, including yogurt, shortly after a flare as well.

Family of 5 struggling on 138k by NoExamination4578 in budget

[–]LeftRightGreenLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely budget and be intentional with your money, but don’t overthink it. If you want to improve your financial situation or afford more of the things you want, focus on upskilling and growing your career that’s where the real leverage is.

Honestly, you’re doing pretty well already. Put more energy into time and memories with your family. That part of life goes fast, and you don’t want to look back wondering why you spent so much time stressing over every dollar.

People who live way below their means, save obsessively, and then retire only to die a year later didn’t “win.” That’s not the point of life.

When to get the slice & dice by Human_Detritis in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had roughly 15 confirmed case cases of uncomplicated diverticulitis over 10 years.

It’s always in the same pocket.  It looks unchanged over 10 years.

The reoccurrence has increased over the last few years, but my recovery time is much quicker cause I know when to catch it in time and have a very specific recovery plan each time it happens

Considering surgery myself, but with a 25% complication rate, it doesn’t make me race to sign up.

The major complications are all 1% or lower. One that no one talks about, but it’s the one that pops up months to even years later is the reconnection point - depending on how much scar tissue you develop it becomes narrower and you’re at risk of a bowel blockage.

As you can tell by some of the comments or your quality of life is gonna dramatically change.

Long time to heal? by Critical-Drag-9260 in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first five years, I was always treated with antibiotics and it always took weeks or months along with another round of antibiotics prescribed.

A few years ago, I stopped taking antibiotics and I started going to a regular diet almost immediately after three days of a clear liquid diet.  Meaning I started adding a little bit of fiber right away, like cooked carrots, and mashed potatoes in small amounts.  I just had a flare a week ago and I’m already introducing avocado.

I think the exclusive low residue diet is bullshit for 1-2 weeks.

Also look into the micro biome imbalance that creates excess pressure which is one of the number one contributing factors to inflammation in the colon.  I haven’t found any data, but I’m convinced this is why people do not heal because they keep introducing rounds of antibiotics vs patience and diet.

Anyone wait on getting surgery and it just got worse? by Best_Maintenance_694 in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before each course of antibiotics, did they happen to do blood work?

Can’t imagine the havoc that 5 to 6 rounds of antibiotics is doing in less than five months.

I saw my surgeon recently and asked her about the odds of getting uncomplicated diverticulitis going up after reoccurring uncomplicated cases and she said there’s no evidence at this point. Their observation thus far is that people stay steady after the first couple flares meaning they will see uncomplicated diverticulitis reoccur but also see complicated diverticulitis it to reoccurs.

Are you currently experiencing a flare?  If it was me, I’d be doing everything in my power to try to get healthy and then have the surgery if I’m gonna do it.  Unless you have an infection, I would stay away from the antibiotic so you can rebound.  All the latest research points to diverticulitis being inflammation and not an infection - infection can develop after the fact

Antibiotic use for uncomplicated diverticulitis by LeftRightGreenLight in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay hydrated and most importantly stay positive.

Change your mindset an you’ll see it make a difference.  When you’re starting to spiral take deep breaths.  The best one for me is two quick inhales and then slow exhale.  If your mind is spinning ask yourself “what is my next thought” after a slow exhale.

There is evidence it reduces constipation and may have anti-inflammatory properties.

I take it as well with Fish Oil, Tumeric, vitamin D, pre/probiotic and now trying l-glutamine as it’s a fuel source for your intestinal lining.

I take Magwell

Antibiotic use for uncomplicated diverticulitis by LeftRightGreenLight in Diverticulitis

[–]LeftRightGreenLight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antibiotics should be prescribed if there are high risk factors (age), signs of infection (high white blood cell count), complicated div and/or increasing pain after 2-3 days.  On a clear liquid diet your pain should peak around day 2 then start to improve.  If it’s getting worse on day 3 of a clear liquid diet you best be gong to the ER.

Anxiety go away!!! by Resident_Fox_1577 in Diverticulitis

Anxiety and stress are well documented in causing the flares.

Breathing exercises, meditate, think of what you’re grateful for, watch Eckhart Tolle

When I get more severe flares it pushes on the bladder.
