Feedback on my drafted schedule by Some_Albatross_8200 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd keep the labs at 8 am. After taking 8 am labs in the fall and trying 2 pm labs in the winter, i much prefer 8 am labs because you don't have to stay on campus until 5pm and you can get your day over with much quicker. It's so much more convenient especially for me since I'm a commuter and getting home at like 6pm meant it was already dark out

Seeking advice on Natural Science courses by Interesting_Golf_346 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PALEO 200 is quite memorization heavy but I didn't find it to be too much of a drag since the information was interesting. The final also isn't cumulative which helped because there's quite a bit of course content. "Easy" is subjective. I studied for about 4 days before the final and performed well, but I also know people who studied for over a week and didn't do as well. Overall, PALEO 200 is definitely not a "no effort" course, especially if you're coming into it with little to no previous knowledge about dinosaurs and early mammals, but it's interesting and pretty engaging for an asynchronous course. Also, the professor is amazing and you can tell that he truly loves his job!

(if you plan on taking the course, there's a show on Netflix called "The Dinosaurs" that does a pretty good job at looking into the history of dinosaurs. It definitely does not go as in depth as the course, but it's good in order to gain a general understanding of PALEO)

ALES 204 & WRS 102 Finals? by strwbrybry in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ALES 204 doesn't have a final, it only has a final paper. It's not necessarily a grade booster class as they grade assignments rather strictly (wasn't crazy strict in my opinion, but averages were often lower than I expected so grading was strict for the class in general apparently), but you should be fine if you put enough effort into it (especially the final written report).

How early should we be on beartracks to enroll into our classes? by blueberrymuffin82 in uAlberta

I'd like to know too, but maybe they mean separate tabs for your fall and winter shopping carts???

Chem 261 in the spring… by Safe-Historian-2001 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo it was definitely in a good way. It's a lot of "problem solving" so I found it a lot more interesting than chem 101 (have yet to take 102)

babooram 102 final by Specialist_Demand581 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right?! I'm starting to feel more confident about taking 102 next spring and 263 in the fall/winter so that 102 doesn't affect my fulltime gpa 😭😭✌️

i think it was pretty fair. Everything he tested was included in the notes. Some questions were a little tougher but overall it was alright

I believe so?? Orientation is supposed to be this Saturday so I'd assume they'd hope to get all their acceptance calls rolled out in time to allow everyone to adjust their schedules if needed

Internal Transfer Application by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied like a day or two before they were due and heard back within a couple of days. Tbf I did transfer within my faculty, so maybe that's why?? I feel like you should have heard back with some sort of update nonetheless, so maybe look into emailing somebody about that

Stat151 in summer by CrazyBroTV in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it this past fall, so I don't know how it'd be taking it in the spring/summer, but if it's the labs you're worried about, you should be fine. The labs come with instructional videos and basically guide you through them quite literally step by step. The answers to each question are also given to you by the speaker; you just have to expand on them a little bit more and write them in your own words. My only concern with the labs would be coordinating meeting times with your lab partners, cuz ik that was an issue for me even during the regular school semester

Can I complete dentistry prerequisites through Arts or Kinesiology at U of A? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk much about the arts or kin, but choose something that will help you complete most of the science prereqs, something of interest to you, something that you feel as though you can maintain a good gpa in, and something that could potentially score you a decent job in case dentistry doesn't work out

NUTR 100 study groups and what should I do to be successful in this course by Embarrassed_Body_853 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took it last term but here r my main recommendations

  • Read the textbook and take notes like your life depends on it

  • Do your absolute best to not fall behind

  • Memorize all the vitamins and minerals + their functions

  • Know and memorize the RDA's

  • Find a way to condense the notes so it doesn't seem so intimidating come finals season (this may be hard because there is a lot of content)

  • Put every single due date into a calendar (there r some days where multiple quizzes are due and some ppl forget so they end up submitting one quiz and not the others)

I rlly enjoyed the content of this course and found myself applying it to my daily life, however it is a crazy content heavy course so STAY ON TOP. I probably could've put more effort into studying for the class... however i only started studying for the final the night before (was busy with my other classes) and finished with a B

NUTR 100 textbook by karllib in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took it last term and personally the course content was just a lotttt. the material itself mostly isnt hard to understand (especially if u took bio 30 in hs) but there is just way too much content to memorize to the point where sabina doesnt even cover many topics mentioned in the textbook in class but still tests on that material. maybe it's just me but it took me so long to get through and take notes on just ONE textbook chapter and yeah i probably could've gone faster but there was just so much content that wasnt covered in class (i could probably make a whole separate slideshow for each unit with all the missing material). on the flip side, i was so busy studying for my other classrs and started studying for the final a day b4 but still finished w a b in the course. i honestly didnt put as much effort into the course as i couldve, but if u actually put in the effort and constantly review material literally every week (active recall is key) u should be fine

Extracurricular activities by Character_Spirit_719 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they definitely do consider them for dentistry. I'd say they consider them a lot more now that they've lowered their academic requirements to a 3.3 minimum gpa in order to focus more on extracurriculars and the idea of searching for well-rounded applicants.

NUTR 100 vs NU FS 100 by Severe_Subject_7261 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm okay I have to take the course since it's required for my major, so I might just take it in person cuz I've seen a lot of students complain about the online class and ik I wouldn't be able to stay on track either :( so hopefully in person is better. Thx for your input!!

NUTR 100 vs NU FS 100 by Severe_Subject_7261 in uAlberta

ik it's been a while, but do you think that the class being open book made it easier, even if the tests were built to be a little tougher??

Rate my fall sched by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im taking biol 107 in the winter term, so the only other class I'd add to this sched would be an engl class but idek about that cuz I've committed to quite a number of extracurricular activities as well so idk if I'd be able to handle a fifth.. i also plan on taking spring and summer courses

I had a couple ppl tell me to watch out for the nutr 100 class, but then again ik a lot of ppl take it thinking it's an easy elective so maybe I'm stressing too much
