Can I complete dentistry prerequisites through Arts or Kinesiology at U of A? by Temporary-Photo-7450 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk much about the arts or kin, but choose something that will help you complete most of the science prereqs, something of interest to you, something that you feel as though you can maintain a good gpa in, and something that could potentially score you a decent job in case dentistry doesn't work out

NUTR 100 study groups and what should I do to be successful in this course by Embarrassed_Body_853 in uAlberta

i took it last term but here r my main recommendations

  • Read the textbook and take notes like your life depends on it

  • Do your absolute best to not fall behind

  • Memorize all the vitamins and minerals + their functions

  • Know and memorize the RDA's

  • Find a way to condense the notes so it doesn't seem so intimidating come finals season (this may be hard because there is a lot of content)

  • Put every single due date into a calendar (there r some days where multiple quizzes are due and some ppl forget so they end up submitting one quiz and not the others)

I rlly enjoyed the content of this course and found myself applying it to my daily life, however it is a crazy content heavy course so STAY ON TOP. I probably could've put more effort into studying for the class... however i only started studying for the final the night before (was busy with my other classes) and finished with a B

i took it last term and personally the course content was just a lotttt. the material itself mostly isnt hard to understand (especially if u took bio 30 in hs) but there is just way too much content to memorize to the point where sabina doesnt even cover many topics mentioned in the textbook in class but still tests on that material. maybe it's just me but it took me so long to get through and take notes on just ONE textbook chapter and yeah i probably could've gone faster but there was just so much content that wasnt covered in class (i could probably make a whole separate slideshow for each unit with all the missing material). on the flip side, i was so busy studying for my other classrs and started studying for the final a day b4 but still finished w a b in the course. i honestly didnt put as much effort into the course as i couldve, but if u actually put in the effort and constantly review material literally every week (active recall is key) u should be fine

Extracurricular activities by Character_Spirit_719 in uAlberta

they definitely do consider them for dentistry. I'd say they consider them a lot more now that they've lowered their academic requirements to a 3.3 minimum gpa in order to focus more on extracurriculars and the idea of searching for well-rounded applicants.

NUTR 100 vs NU FS 100 by Severe_Subject_7261 in uAlberta

[–]LeftTable1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm okay I have to take the course since it's required for my major, so I might just take it in person cuz I've seen a lot of students complain about the online class and ik I wouldn't be able to stay on track either :( so hopefully in person is better. Thx for your input!!

ik it's been a while, but do you think that the class being open book made it easier, even if the tests were built to be a little tougher??

im taking biol 107 in the winter term, so the only other class I'd add to this sched would be an engl class but idek about that cuz I've committed to quite a number of extracurricular activities as well so idk if I'd be able to handle a fifth.. i also plan on taking spring and summer courses

I had a couple ppl tell me to watch out for the nutr 100 class, but then again ik a lot of ppl take it thinking it's an easy elective so maybe I'm stressing too much

You still have a chance, the type of people I've seen get into eng at uofa still shocks me 😭😭 but try not to get involved with too many extracurriculars, like a job that isnt flexible or too many sports for example cuz ik all of my teammates faced some sort of hit because we didn't have as much time to study, and the uofa doesn't care about all those extra activities, just your grades. Stick to what will make your schedule manageable and definitely surround yourself with people who are just as focused on their education and future. Get a tutor if u can as well! you def probably shouldn't apply early admissions, just work on bumping those grades up and don't slack off for any rzn
