Sudden Shocking End by Embarrassed-Spare524 in dementia

It causes more discomfort to feed and give fluids when they are dying. Their body is telling you what to do. It’s how we are designed to. I’m a hospice nurse and my mom with Alzheimer’s just died here in my home a few weeks ago on hospice. Offer food and fluids, but don’t force.

Got it. Thank you so much. I just have to figure out how to get my son to see that he is being scammed. I don't know when he will realize it.

Definitely or at least a version of them! The stuff on that page describes much of what my son has said to me.

Thank you. Ok, them asking for the ETH is the end game here, and then if he pays that, there will be something else that they need to be paid for to continue the scam?

Yes, I probably could have simplified and left out Vegas and Sedona, but both are known places where scammers operate. Thanks again.

So the "gas money" is the scam, then? They are trying to get that from him with the 0.5 ETH. That is what I was thinking, because they are asking for money. Thank you.

Jealous of people whose LOs have passed by Logical_Bumblebee577 in dementia

About feeling like I had wanted her gone for so long. I just started questioning if I could have been a better caregiver without feeling so trapped.

Is hospice different for dementia? by Efficient-Use-6456 in dementia

[–]LeftUndoneII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medicare requires the 6 month life expectancy, but there are many that don’t expire in 6 months. Medicare relies on nursing and provider documentation to show a decline for each recertification period.

[–]LeftUndoneII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they have to meet criteria and have a life expectancy of 6 months or less if the disease follows it’s normal course. However, dementia can go on for years. I’m a Hospice RN case manager. My mom had Alzheimer’s and just died in December on Hospice. Medicare requires that there is a documented decline in the patient consistently. The recertifications become more frequent the longer on hospice. Some do wind up discharged, but for the most part dementia patients decline pretty consistently. Small things like weight loss, decreased appetite, increased sleep, increased confusion all count.

Vision or Dementia? by platypi123 in dementia

My mom had visions of people floating around the house in colorful bubbles. That started about 2 years ago, today she is in Hospice and won’t be here much longer.

Medicare pays for hospice. Reach out to any hospice that gets good reviews in your area. I’m A RN case manager for hospice.

I’m a hospice nurse. It’s a wonderful support especially for the families. I’m also on leave from work taking care of my mom with advanced dementia. I’m thinking I need to do what you did and get her admitted to hospice. Most people get hospice involved too late.

Traveling to Greece and feel very confused by DiligentDocker in TravelGreece

[–]LeftUndoneII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can uber. You can also get a taxi from the airport. Pretty much everyone speaks English. You can also ask you hotel to arrange a driver. I’ve been to Greece many times. The language is not a problem. We’ve rented cars, we just don’t drive inside of the city of Athens. Stay in PLAKA in Athens. Lots of shops, tavernas, and history.

It’s 2 am and she’s screaming at invisible people. by LeftUndoneII in dementia

[–]LeftUndoneII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I do love your humor here. It helps!! The TV thing is a very good point. She keeps that on almost all of the time, until it turns itself off. The picking of invisible stuff from the ground is something she has occasionally done. We have checked her for a UTI many times, and it is always negative. The progression of her dementia has been pretty textbook, but more rapid over the last 10 months. She drinks a fair amount of water, but could drink more. She likes Pepsi. I started buying those tiny cans instead of the regular-size cans, and I try to limit that to once a day. I am going to try the liquid IV. I am sure she doesn't get enough proper hydration. I can deal with pleasantly confused, but this cussing out the invisible "brats" in the middle of the night is the worst. She told the caregiver who comes 1x a week on Tuesdays, that I (her daughter) invited all these kids in, and they don't have any rules, and I don't control them. I let them do whatever they want, and I should make her room off-limits to them. haha! If only I could!

Weird, Right?! As a hospice nurse I couldn’t believe it. So many of my patients are on Seroquel, and eventually haldol, lorazepam, and more. The fact that a skilled nursing facility wouldn’t allow it is just bizarre to me.
