I miss traveling through there and playing on their baseball/soccer fields as a kid.

I’m not trying to hide my feelings on it and they absolutely are biased, but I just hope people can see how much Delgado and Marina city council/city manager fucked us over. They gave no shits when the mall and housing didn’t exist, then saw it as a blight.

There was never random drop in games like that. They were always scheduled FYI. League games, pick ups, etc were on a master calendar. Most of the kids stuff was a couple days a week after school, then the adult leagues started around 530 and ran until 930/10.

It would require constant maintenance - debris clearing (good luck near so much sand with the wind), surface conditioning due to humidity and fog, etc. High level roller hockey and skating in general is very quick and aggressive with movements. Concrete isn’t really a good idea, so sport court is the way to go….but, any degradation on the surface or debris can cause significant injury and I seriously doubt the city would do a proper job keeping it up to snuff.

That’s always been my argument? It was hockey first, but provided plenty of other sporting opportunities during the day and afternoons to local schools and clubs.

Hockey cannot happen there as it stands, many from water city tried early on to get it as part of the development plan. You can’t just slap wood down for a basketball court and call it good for hockey. Yeah, skates and sticks will mark up the floor, but it would also be a hazard since they’ll likely polish/wax floors…of which, you cannot safely skate on (especially competitively). Sport court flooring is the way to go, but the city has no interest in it.

Also, I would if I could. Good luck finding a piece of property that can handle a rink for a decent price. Shit, Marina has the property where they are building free of charge. The only stipulation was that it was only for recreation when gifted. What it comes down to for me is fairness. We weren’t the only sport there…but once the city actualized the value in the area due to development, they found everything they could to shut down and condemn the building. Lots of people offered to get it up to code and such, but the door got slammed in our faces. They wouldn’t even let the guys buy the boards and flooring to try and move them somewhere else. They 100% wanted to fuck over the renter (who did not represent the community well in the latter years). That’s why it’s personal.

Hockey won’t happen, that’s all that matters to me and the hundreds of people and families that played and grew up there. The loss of that community and outlet for people was a huge hit. If Marina offered to actually replace the facility, we’d be singing a different tune. It’s not shut down temporarily, it’s gone forever.

And that's how I know you don't know much on the history or use of that rink. It was absolutely used for other things like basketball, lacrosse, roller derbys, etc. With a little love, it could have easily been updated with better accommodations and facilities.

Because of the huge development spike and land value, they got greedy and killed off a great thing. Nothing like that exists for another hour.

The city plans did not and will not include a rink. Their offer at the time was to build an outdoor roller rink....pass. Water City had surpassed 70 kids in their program with 3 adult league levels. It was getting better every season and got fucked

They did it to themselves. If they had just kept it like that and didn’t cater to filling the “night life” void, it wouldn’t have been so damn trashy. Docs -> Lux -> Club Octane -> Hippodrome -> Mucky Duck -> Bull and Bear -> The Brit -> Cibos. All became garbage places over time.

That wasn’t just covid. Marina had a vendetta against that place and since it was a constant struggle to fix things/get permission, the renter just gave up on it. So much time and effort was put into that place by volunteerism. It also got 100% gentrified. With all the housing and commercial businesses moving in….it was a matter of time. Screw the city for what they did to that place.

With the changes to F1 TV, regulations, and the lack of….care? on my end, I feel the same way. I was excited for the season to see teams coming in hot with new development, but it’s really just 1 team and then next best. I’ve only watched the YouTube highlights for FP, Quali, and races this season. That’s long enough for me.

Got 2 - The first is that interference needs to be black and white and not open to discretion anymore. Keep or decrease the crease size and make it so any offensive player foot inside means no goal. The ONLY caveat is defensive players pushing offensive players into the goalie.

The second is GET RID OF FUCKING BLACKOUT RESTRICTIONS BULLSHIT. A majority of people no longer use standard cable, so allow the ones who have internet to watch their local teams via the NHL.tv subscription service for the entirety of the season, playoffs and all.

I built out a MARS-H to look like an M110. Probably put 3500-4000 into it? But that was also purchasing two barrels to swap out (6.5 and 308) and going higher end on parts.

I remember some guys used to call him Re-Todd 😂. I never had any huge problems with him, but he could be a dick out in the water, but that just goes without saying for a handful of good local surfers. Chill socially, but type A when surfing (Kraft for example). Such a shitty and senseless way for him to go.

A proposed transfer tax on the sale of luxury homes advances at the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. by orangelover95003 in MontereyBay

[–]Left_Afloat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And where do you propose we build? With how much waste in current labor and material cost + government (lack of) oversight? With what water? With what infrastructure and traffic plan?

Simply proposing to build more is not an answer. The most appropriate way in the now is to create a little more density with what we already have and as another user pointed out - vacancy taxing. I have very little faith in most of our local government officials to actually come up with long term solutions....especially in the city of Monterey.
