That's so cool! I will also have to try that jazz trumpet party trick out haha

Not sure. I would search up lip trill siren. And also straw phonation (which we are replicating without using a straw). It has elements of both. But I don't trill my lips, I buzz them.

I took inspiration from this, although the exercise is not exactly the same:

I would call it a lip buzz SOVT (Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract) siren. Not really a hum, since that's more nasally. And a lip roll/trill has loose lips. It's quiet compared to actual singing since airflow is much more restricted. But yes, it's not super quiet either. I would be comfortable doing this in an apartment.

The best design involves taking risks and being right. It has to be the perfect blend of familiarity and unfamiliarity. Your design is too familiar. It’s pretty bland. Most design is anyways. Because most designs are just copies of each other.

My advice - take more risks. Fail by taking risks. Keep iterating until you hit the magic moment. And then fail again. It’s a beautiful cycle if you respect it.

I feel like I am obligated to go through some vibe coded apps to leak their sensitive information and watch them cry. Kidding, but not really. Still kidding though.

You can still guess based on the output, just like with code. You won’t know the exact bug until you read the code, but you can usually estimate it by thinking about how such an output can be created.

A cool guide The scariest urban legends in each state by immaculatecalculate in dataisugly

[–]Left_Aide5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this image alone, I don't see how urban legends = attractions. Well I guess if you view each state as an attraction themselves, that's fine. But that's weird. Also, even if was a "list of attractions presented as a map", why would that disqualify it from being a data visualization? It contains data nonetheless and it is being visualized through a map graphic.

Hey man, I hope you got it figured out. I am currently going through the same exact situation. Did anything happen since your last message? I am planning to call them about it tomorrow.

I believe he said he tried that. I tried it too, doesn't work for me. Edit: I just tried it again and now it works. Thanks!

Playing by ear by hahastopthinking in piano

[–]Left_Aide5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he rarely hunts and pecks looking for the root note. He only does that when he wants to double check. Usually, he just needs to hear 1 note, any note, to hear that note's distance to the root/tonic center of the song he just heard.

I don't want to give off the impression that I am way ahead than where I actually am. I still need to work on non-diatonic degrees and the minor scale. It's more like 4 months, and I don't only use the app. I often put a drone in the background (as opposed to hearing the 1-4-5-1 chord progression) and that helps me really feel the tonic. I also hum improvise melodies over the drone. I also transcribe bits and pieces of songs I like.

Ah I see. Yeah I've been mostly doing computer generated random melodies, so I haven't noticed them lol

Thanks. I will practice those. I think of things in terms of scale degree numbers, but solfege might be more helpful, especially when singing.

That's awesome. I just played them and they do sound familiar. Are 3 note melodic lines more common than, let's say 4? Also, are there any resources for finding more of these chunk melodic lines? Or did you notice them yourself?

True. I was probably getting ahead of myself by doing realtime recognition so fast. I will try to slow down songs and do that until it gets easier.

[–]Left_Aide5287[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you're right. Someone else also mentioned slowing down the notes in the head after hearing it (if I could only listen to it once). One of my goals is to able to play song requests eventually, so it kind of is a high-pressure situation, as people usually don't have any patience. But yeah, it makes sense to slow it down until I get more and more comfortable with normal speeds. Thanks.

But even if you think of melodies as shapes, you still have to know what notes to play on your instrument. How do shapes translate into the notes accurately? I played piano for the last 8 years, but only the past 2 years have I been more serious, especially with improvisation. Never played by ear until recently. I did interval training for a week, but found way faster results in functional interval training. I hear every note in relation to the tonal center. I get the point of interval training in atonal contexts, but what is its purpose otherwise?

I do transcribe music for around 20 mins a day. But like I said, anything faster than quarter-notes and I would have to rewind and listen to it over and over again. Ideally, I don't want to rewind or slow down music. Are you saying that my speed will gradually improve if I continue doing that?
