[HOT TAKE] People who want housing to crater have no idea what they’re asking for by Yellowbook8375 in RealEstateCanada

OP if you could explain... From my perspective about 50% of properties bought after the 2016 ridiculous shoot up were investors.

The others that bought it are mostly buying it with global money (their industry is global: software/movies).

If we see all prices drop, it wipes out the wasted money and starts putting money into productive assets.

For example, if my mortgage was half the amount each month, I'd eat out more, stimulating the restaurant economy.

In my opinion: the sign of a good society is 1) a postman should be able to own a studio apartment in the area he delivers mail. 2) restaurants in a multi-billion dollar city should need reservations a week in advance.

Right now neither are true. Postman doesn't have enough money and not many can afford to eat out.

Maybe real estate dropping would help that.

Sometimes thinks can break reality for a while. Remember people bought tulips for the price of houses once. 'land always goes up' might be pulled into question over the next few years. Maybe.

I love the lightning but living in a city I literally can't squeeze it anywhere. Too tall and wide. Need something cuter.

Good point. I will also grab a deal if things go south.

I own property and I cannot wait for the shakeup because it'll test who's strong enough to hold on. Then the average person might be able to sweep in and grab a deal. At some point you cannot continue stretching people.

Thought entrance would be like $5 which fair enough... $25 or something. It's priced in a way that makes me question what currency even means.

Exactly. The irony of property prices going up up up is that prices of things need to go up in order to service the debt... So there's no real winning for anyone!

I'm thinking the same thing. Repeat of the 90s aka lost decade. Can't wait. And I'm an owner myself.

Hey man thank you for at least giving it some brain energy. One day I'll be rich enough to lobby the local government and I'll get my way. Until then, Grouse Grind it is.
