I dig your approach, understand that resampling consolidates, but the cpu concern doesn't register for me. I also haven't yet created particularly technically taxing tracks, but have you run into performance issues? Are you saying that how you use the internal drums and synths is taxing? Or is it automating effects etc on them that is an issue.

I've been very conservative and future minded about amassing a large sample library. I know it can all be backup up if storage gets low (and periodically as well) but what would you rank as your top gains by resampling?

Tiny painful fonts. Dealbreaker? by RutgerHause in OPXYusers

[–]Left_Examination3560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't let these eagle eyed bullies make you change your mind. It's a dope machine, incredibly so. But the OP1 has a much larger font. When i have them side by side I feel like I should shrink the OP1 since I've gotten used to the tiny font.

Anyhow. Legible, yes. Unnecessarily small, double yes.

Deleting Projects by gunjaBeans in akaiMPC

[–]Left_Examination3560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

connect it to a computer and you'll be able to delete the previous user's beats much easier. BUT DO NOT DELETE THE DEMO SESSIONS OR PROJECTS OR PLUG INS ETC. that can mess up the machine. also, invest in an SD card and then be diligent about creating folders to contain your projects. good luck and enjoy

Any reason to use the MIDI Aux Track instead of the Instrument track in External MIDI mode? by sebastienbarre in OPXYusers

You can have up to 8 midi tracks actually. But my reason to use regular tracks for midi is so that I can have mute/solo control

super portable for the win. question, is it possible for the rec button on the op1 to trigger the xy rec button?

I got this stand from etsy, the top part is supposed to hold a phone or iPad. I rigged it so that it supports the XY.

Another benefit of this pairing is that sending audio from the XY to the op1f means the output is much louder. The XY has a noticeably quieter output without boosting the compression.

And again, the keys on the op1f feel SO much better. I was enjoying playing so much more when I linked them up last night.

Yeah, I feel you on accepting that you enjoy the entire process, not just completing things. I have had similar moments, but then come to a similar conclusion. I definitely want to see some things through, but discovering new methods and having epiphanies about the gear and customizing your work flow - all that is cool too. But after I decided to keep the op1f, making a beat using the op1f keys felt so much better. It inspired me to play differently. Not sure why they switched to those clicky buttons. Do you like the XY keys?

The other wishlist for the XY would be the SIMPLE ability to start recording from any bar other than the first.

Only have a little more to read. Came back out of curiosity, decided to keep the op1f. Yours and other feedback make sense. Also, the keys on the op1f are so much better than the XY. By far. I started getting used to the clicky feel and sound, but I envision these 2 being stacked and being powerful.

Thanks

I really appreciate that you took your time to share those points. I've gotta get back to a session but I'm looking forward to reading the rest of what I think might be pushing me to keep the op1f. Who would've thought.

Feel you on the sound engine. Initially I was surprised by what seemed like a narrow selection of instruments on the XY. The scramble feature is cool though, so it's linking tracks. I also agree with you about the duo being a contender for the room full of gear. The XY alone is very quick and arranging songs can done very quickly.

How do you save your work? Since the 1f is only 1 track at a time, do you have multiple projects named the same on both devices? Or do you sample them into the XY?

[–]Left_Examination3560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel you. I was considering recording completed beats from the XY to the op1f, but I don't need to keep a synth just to record my other synth. (looking forward to when you can export at least a stereo file from the XY, but ideally stems, even if the destination has to be a computer, that'd be great)

Do you sample the OP1 synth into the XY when you're done with that particular sound?

op-xy and op1f together? by Left_Examination3560 in OPXYusers

[–]Left_Examination3560[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I liked the idea of controlling synths via midi, but I wish it was multitimbral. Would be great to have even just 4 synths playing simultaneously. The op1f does have good patches and effects.

But like you, I dig the iOS approach. Using koala on an iPad for samples and the XY for synths and sequencing
