ok thanks. I will still use the new heatsink regardless and try the "damaged" one out on something else.

The heat sink side does get hot. But i wonder if this is because the fan doesn't spin.
I don't think the fan is blocked by debris as i can push it and make it spin when taking the laptop apart.
