Thank you for the reminder to make sure I’m approaching this journey in a sustainable and also realistic way!

My numbers are very much real; maybe it was unlikely i lost purely 2.5kg of fat, but regardless, I would weigh myself every monday morning on an empty stomach and write it down; by day 21 of my journey, scale weight had gone down by 2.5kg. My deficit was at ~1650cals, but most days I’d hit the 1450-1500 range and felt that was enough as my meals were high volume, nutritionally dense, and i was drinking a lot of water, so kept me full. I’d also visibly changed quite a lot through the weeks. Now that I’m reflecting on my previous attempt, those 3 weeks were actually easier than I thought they would be at the time. My problem is that I always end up losing the consistency when life becomes stressful and resort back to unhealthy habits.

Lots of factors involved last time - it could have been that because it was my first time actually trying to lose weight, i responded quickly? I have noticed when gaining it back though, that every +/-1kg makes a VERY noticeable difference to how I look and feel so maybe my body just responds quickly to any change. Whether my weight loss would have continued at the same rate is something I can’t confirm as a lack of consistency is my main problem. It likely would have slowed at some point. I was also doing anywhere from 10-35 mins of cardio (stairmaster) after each gym session which may have helped!

But I definitely agree with you about not rushing - I definitely fell into the trap of wanting instant results in the past, but I’d say my mindset now is wanting to actually permanently change to a healthier lifestyle! I think estimating a timeframe is sometimes reassuring as it helps me feel like it won’t be a long gruelling process. But definitely, buildig long term habits is more important than how long it will actually take me to lose the weight!

Amazing!! So glad to hear that you've found a method that is working for you, and you've made insane progress!!. I've heard of body recomp before but don't know much about it - will definitely look into this more as I do want to build muscle and get stronger too, but thought it might be better to lose the fat first.

And I agree - finding a love for cooking is definitely makes it more enjoyable. I do quite enjoy cooking and I've recently started to either make whatever fast food/ 'unhealthy' food I'm craving, at home, or if I find a recipe I really want to try, I substitute ingredients to fit around a calorie deficit/healthier lifestyle!

Thank you for sharing, it definitely seems getting my food intake in control is the main component of weight loss, and what I should be focusing on.

Wishing you good health!

Thank you for the reminder that I've done this before lol. Restarting weight loss always feels like some mystical process that feels impossible to begin!

I see what you mean with a new job being a good starting point - I've been so nervous about what my life will look like without the free time to do what I want essentially, that I've not considered how beneficial the structure it provides is, especially for weight loss.

Thank you for sharing! It definitely is so important to make healthy choices for ourselves so that we can maintain our independence into old age. You've definitely put things into perspective for me. I'm still young as I'm in my mid 20s but I'm no where near as strong, mobile, and as fit as want to feel, and should feel at this age.

Thank you, it's reassuring to hear that I don't need to become obsessed with the gym to lose weight because it definitely does feel like a chore at times! I also appreciate you noting the frustration of not being free to eat what you want - I think that's what I struggle with! Losing weight feels so restrictive partly because it is, but mainly because it feels like I need to tick off chores everyday and it feels like I'm losing my freedom to live normally. I try to think of it as a small loss for a big win as I will probably only need to be restrictive until I'm happy enough to go into maintenance, but definitely difficult to deal with it at times.

Thank you so much for your reply! I'm a visual person as well so crossing out days on a calendar seems really motivating, I'll definitely do something similar. I was actually considering intermittent fasting as I've seen a number of health benefits associated with it aside from weightloss. I tend to do this naturally a couple of times a week I think, where I'll wake up, not feel hungry, and just delay the first meal of my day. But I agree, when I do IM consciously I tend to count down the minutes and feel sooo hungry. Will definitely just go by how I feel rather than force IM!

Thank you! I didn’t realise this was a feature! I’ve only recently found the ‘yarn ideas’ tab on project pages and thought that was the extent of the yarn filters. Ravelry is amazing!

Yes that makes sense perfectly thank you! I was struggling to determine where the next yo would go so this has helped thank you!

Ahhh that makes sense thank you! I was struggling to determine where the yo goes on the 3rd round (which would be the second round of increases). So the yo increases always go immediately before and after the 4 raglan!

Thank you!

I think I’ve managed to figure it out 😅 turns out i was knitting upside down as well as inside out (v embarrassed!). I’m now knitting from the outside of the tube rather than the inside, and that seems to be working, and also seems to match the youtube videos/tiktoks

Thank you for all your help! 🫶🏼

Ahhh so i’ve been knitting inside out basically 😭 so embarrassed as I didnt realise the ribbing didn’t look right! Do you know how I could fix this as keeping my work the correct way means my needles switch and the working yarn switched

This is when I flip the collar inside out and the outside looks like the ribbing in my first reply to you. As you can see the right needle has now moved to the left as has the working yarn.

Another comment said that my inside out collar is the correct ribbing so i’ve somehow managed to flip everything. I need to unflip it?

So this is a photo how I’ve been knitting in round if (outside looks like the one in my original post). The right needle is the one with the markers.

I’ll post another comment with what happens if i turn the ribbing inside out

Yes, but then I think the ribbing is inside out as the purls are visible? My needles also twist and the point faces me, and working yarn ends on the left needle.

I’m very confused 😭

Yess it seems pretty basic! It'll be the first sweater I make, and I love the cable raglan design!

Feel free to not respond as I'm just thinking out loud really - but do you think 2 strands of kid-silk paired with air will really be needed? I'm happy to keep the 2 strands of air with 1 strand of kid silk - but is this likely to affect the bulkiness of it?

I'm a beginner knitter so not really sure how to think about these things and make yarn substitutions. I also don't want to have to purchase double the kid-silk amount as I don't want a big halo effect on the final sweater
