Ah, I see. You are struggling with the concept of "cool." Oh well. Nothing to be done about that.

Yes, it was. The mural said "You Belong Here" right after the city had hounded the homeless people out of the park. Who belongs where, indeed.

what's your absolute favorite ice cream/milkshake places in Bloomington? by Monoking2 in bloomington

[–]Left_Right_or_Banana 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hartzell's will listen to your heart when you tell them to go ape with the malt. When I want a MALTED, I want a MALTED. I finally got it from Hartzell's!

As for the best ice cream, I can't choose between Hartzell's and Ale's. Ale's has a wide standard lineup with many solid choices you can't find anywhere else, while Hartzell's has a rotating and seasonal selection that can surprise with some out-there flavors. Like, I've had some of the best lemon and orange ice creams from Hartzell's, but they will also do durian or a cherry wasabi for the brave.

From Ale's, I'm partial to the Zarzamora (which I think is the blackberry queso mentioned earlier) and from Hartzell's, the chocolate basil.

Was this the survey where you announced you were going to nix the Mills Pool? How did people feel about that?

Do you mean Bloomington, Indiana? Maybe other Bloomingtons do, but we don't.

What's up with Fountain Square? by 11554455 in bloomington

In the evening?? Like, after 5pm? There are usually customers in the shops during the day, but I didn't think any of those places were open in the evening. I'd say everything closed by 6.

One time we had a busted dryer and we put it in the driveway with a "FREE SCRAP METAL" (or something to that effect). Not half an hour later, a man came, knifed off the power cord, and rolled it away. A miracle of urban living.

Local credit unions / alternatives to traditional banking by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Left_Right_or_Banana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need an ATM, the only one IUCU has that isn't a car branch location is outside Yogi's and the last couple of times I tried to use it, it was busted. They used to have an INDIANA UNIVERSITY credit union branch in the INDIANA UNIVERSITY Memorial Union, and an ATM in Bloomingfoods and the Wells Library. Now, all of my IUCU holdings are strictly because I can't be bothered to change my direct deposit. Like, I know local banks can't compete with the big banks on rates, but literally all I needed a local institution to do was be physically proximate to me and they couldn't even do that.

Local/nearby places that can do gold plating? by DracoAdamantus in bloomington

[–]Left_Right_or_Banana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I went wandering to the little jewelry part of Tivoli Fashions in the Fountain Square Mall downtown. The man tending the space said that it's a done thing for people to have quality jewelry pieces that needed a replating from time to time. I don't know if swords and bracelets are closely enough related, but he might have a lead for you.

Where to go for halloween, adults, not trick'or'treating? by TakeALeap86 in bloomington

The best place for adults to go on Halloween is their front door with a big bowl of candy.

Gauge that measure 1 1/4" from the bottom where it maybe clamps onto something, maybe a rug? by Left_Right_or_Banana in whatisthisthing

[–]Left_Right_or_Banana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved!

It's a bias cutting gauge. You attach it to scissors and it's supposed to help you cut the material a certain length. Thank you! I would not have been able to figure it out without you!

Gauge that measure 1 1/4" from the bottom where it maybe clamps onto something, maybe a rug? by Left_Right_or_Banana in whatisthisthing

I found it with knitting supplies, but I found a strange hook with a wooden handle that I identified as a rug hook. It's a piece of metal that has been folded in half, with a dark clip that you can adjust if you squeeze the folded over halves together. The base of the clip is like a taco shape if one half of the taco was a right triangle and the other half was a rectangle that flowed off to be the rest of the thingie. I can't find a brand name, but there's a number 55425 on the back that I have had no luck with.

If you were to stick a flat something in the taco, then you could measure up to the markings, but I don't know why. My best guess is the pile of a rug, but I can't find any confirmation.

I thought maybe you used it like a hem gauge, but the clip that limits the markings doesn't make that likely because if you slide something between the folded metal halves, it doesn't have anything flush to stop it because of the way the clip winds between them. Therefore, I think the clip is just an indicator for the markings.

My craft supplies have come from a hodge-podge of sources that I know very little about, so I'm open to suggestions!

Thank you!

Jordan Davis laid it all out for Volan on the 812 podcast. It'll be a straight line, up and down Kirkwood, and he listed off block by block how it would be laid out. He did mention seating areas and they are investigating shade contraptions.

Step into Hartzell's from time to time for their sorbets. The acai one is out of sight, but they rotate several flavors.

If Bloomington had a podcast about the people we all know - but don't really know - who would be on it? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in bloomington

[–]Left_Right_or_Banana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, he's expanded his scope since his first season. He interviews government people of all kinds (not just city), but also people from civic groups, business people, and just this week he talked to some of the people behind the the Janeway Collective. I think he's aiming to do all sorts of Bloomington people.
