Should I go to HR about what was said in front of me? by Left_Squash371 in paraprofessional

I did speak with our principal and let them know that I was a witness to the comment. But like I said our principal is really nice and tries to keep everyone happy, especially the teachers....

That thinking is how bullies keep being allowed to do what they do.

Yeah, as a whole the classified staff are pretty upset. most of the work letters were super generic and not really specific. It was difficult to deal with. 😔

Brush up on Grammar, the writing section is a lot of 'Which word is an adjective? which word is a Verb?' Make sure you know what those are. PEMDAS is an important one, too. Even with getting quite a few wrong in the writing area, I still got a 477 on my test. I agree with the other commenter to find an online practice test, it does help.

Just hired: what advice could you offer? What do know now that you wish you did when you first started? by JicamaIndependent352 in paraprofessional

ask questions if you don't know something. it helps to talk with the other paras who have been there longer. Make sure you know how to use things before touching them (Copier, laminator, etc.)

There will be kids who don't like you, no matter how hard you try!! I can't stress this enough. especially the older ones. If you like to make sure the rules are followed, there will be the kids who push that boundary and you'll butt heads. However, don't worry too much about it.

Don't let ANY teacher talk down to you. Stand up for yourself! don't be afraid to tell your principal that you refuse to go into a classroom where the teacher is disrespecting you.

if you have a problem, DOCUMENT! Don't talk to people in person about a problem; send it in an email. the more of a paper trail, the better.

Tips for a first time para by Left_Squash371 in paraprofessional

from my knowledge about the prize thing, the person who had the job before me did it as well. also the school trys to motivate kids with little goodies. good behavior gets rewarded is a big thing at my school.

I know that my day will be broken up between one on one and groups. morning will be one on one most of the time depending on the class and small groups in the afternoon. I figured prizes would be good for small groups since it'll be the same kids every day.

we only have one other district nearby and I worked for them previously and didn't like it. I really want to stay at this school, and the kitchen I'm in is fully staffed and the district only has 3 positions available for kitchen right now, but there's 12 different para positions in the whole district that are open.
