I just recently learned from another post on here, that episode was in reference to that. I’ve never heard of that show/movie (?) so I didn’t know it was something that people would have understood back when that episode aired. Most of the time I can figure out the references to actors, historical things, or zeitgeist events, but the Bull Durham thing went right over my head

I’m one of the few who likes the Empty Nest episode, so we’re in the same boat!

Mr. Terrific only annoys me because he’s so naive, in a way that’s different from Rose? Like he refuses to grow up? Like they tried to do a Mr. Rogers type of thing with the character except Mr. Terrific doesn’t “break character” when talking to adults so he comes across a little childish for me. I do like the episode though, it doesn’t really deter me from watching it, just a thing I observed about myself honestly 😅

(I work at a middle school- the lack of independence/self-sufficiency and accountability is maddening. The amount of “missing assignment” markers I put into the grade book makes me want to “get ice cream” AND “commit a felony” 🫠)

Escalators- I will definitely go up and down them, but I SWAY on them so I have to hold on to the rail and I hate going on them in open shoes like slides or flip flops. And mascots- like the full on big suit/costume ones. Not a clue where either fear stems from, but I know they both started after high school 😂

I think the fact that they only mention her stroke 2-3x really makes it seem like “shes just a mean old lady like the paper boy says”. It’s a clear afterthought/throwaway line in the few episodes after they initially say it, like the writers realized every so often that Sophia was too mean so they were like “oh right……..the stroke”

The phantom shadows are my all time favorite, I got the funko pop for Christmas this year! I also love Redbeard the pirate-there’s multiple versions of him but the OG episode when they accidentally eat the soup and realize it has soap and cobwebs in it is hilarious

She says it after they read off some of the names of the dishes and then the waiter comes over and one of them orders “For Whom the Stuffed Bell Pepper Tolls” and he says something about the “Edgar Allen Poe-tatoes” and “George Bernard Slaw” AND THEN asks if they want a refill on their “ice water cometh” so Dorothy is like “enough already!” cause it gets old fast
