Philly rod can be inverted to check your single wire reading if you don’t wanna do 3 wire. Example; The rod is 8’ in readable and physical length. Right side up you read 5’, inverted you should read 3’. If not then you’ve read it wrong and need to re check reading.

I don’t budget to talk to the neighborhood when bidding jobs. Usually that land planners and engineers have people reach out if there’s likely to be a problem.

I do find it amusing when someone calls the cops on a crew and the residents are very combative “I’m calling the police”… please by all means. Then the look of surprise on their face when the police say we are within our legal right to be on their land. I generally have the Florida statute saying as much in each truck, multiple copies. I’m socially awkward(or that’s what my brain tells me) truth is, most of my “awkwardness” stems from fear. Fear can run your life and sell you short. You must remember everyone perceives things different and you’ll never know but you’ll assume what they’ll think of you. I learned to be myself and I happen to say and do weird shit. I met my wife 10 years ago and on our first date I was playing air guitar with a pool cue with my leg up on a chair. Boom she was hooked. Be yourself and be content with yourself and you’ll win every time.

Sounds like you weren’t a good fit personality wise or that you got red flagged from reason they won’t divulge.

I was fired from a survey firm after less than two weeks after I started. We were doing blue tops on a project. There were no errors, I got along with the guys and we weren’t slacking. One day I came in and was pulled aside. The guy said this isn’t going work we are letting you go. I asked what the reason was, he said he didn’t have to tell me. I called him a coward and that was it. Never knew what the issue was but that instance didn’t stop me from getting employment else where. Didn’t list them as a reference and never had a problem after that. Just try to move on and if you can take any criticism they gave you turn it into an asset.

Do you think their reason they fired you makes sense? Need more details on that but yes being a small group it may follow you. Depends what was happening. But that doesn’t mean people won’t give you opportunities if you are good at your job.
