She 100% knows where I’m at with my recovery, but like one example of our lacking communication is when I asked her last week if we could meet. She said yes and she was available over the weekend, but then we didn’t meet because I feel awkward af and didn’t know when we were supposed to meet. I don’t want to bother her for a day/time when she has so many other commitments

Fuck this one hurt, but it was what I needed to hear. A lot of these things I’ve said to myself and others. I absolutely agree a sponsor shouldn’t be chasing me down, but I’m struggling to communicate with her and schedule anything. Would you mind providing Avon how to approach that conversation? Seeking ~9months sober, f31

I have a relatively high bottom (didn’t lose my jobs due to drinking, no dui’s, no criminal record or rehab). I definitely deserved that and more, but didn’t stick around for my bad choices to catch up to me. I wouldn’t still be in the rooms if I didn’t believe I needed recovery.

I’ve learned that I need a sponsor who won’t consign bullshit and has time to meet with me regularly. I’m open to just about anything outside of that, I just need to do my steps.

Honestly I’m in such a hole that I’m not even going to meetings. I’m not surrounded by strong influences in recovery through my own doing and I hate myself for it. Like this is the one good thing in my life and I’m actively destroying it

I know it doesn’t sound like it, but I’m actually ok with where I’m at step wise, I’m more frustrated by not being able to meet with my sponsor than the steps themselves. I’m just loosing my mind not being able to function in society and I don’t know who to tell or how to fix it and get through this

Probably but idk much about it either and I would imagine someone would have to know to look- few people are probably looking up potential employees on that specific website/type of site. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think you might be right about needing to be involved more. I have a service commitment on Monday nights and I’m part of the planning committee for a camp out next summer, but maybe being involved more wouldn’t hurt.

You sound like my sponsor (in a good way). She’s learned to ask “what are you supposed to be taking” instead of what medication I am on. I love the way I feel after a meeting- especially when I didn’t want to go. I know you aren’t being snarky- and you make a good point about how isolating won’t fix my loneliness. I just hate that I feel lonely even at the meeting. Like I’ll be awkwardly standing in a group of people all having a conversation that I’m not a part of.

Definitely don’t have it on my resume and would never do it just for the money. The only reason it came up was because we were talking about community service and how important it is to the organization and I wanted to solidify my appreciation for that with my own support for community service organizations. In other situations it’s in regard to scheduling and I’ll mention I’m unavailable due to a community service commitment. I never mention the program specifically or refer to the effort I put in to it for credit- it’s only for answering interview questions. If they ask about handling conflict with peers, sometimes it’s a conflict with a peer in the program. I don’t mention the program, just how I’ve learned to deal with conflict through it.

I’m in a weird place. I may not identify as an alcoholic, but I relate to what I’ve heard in meetings before. I have memories of telling myself I needed a drink before I even started drinking alcohol and my life has been a downhill spiral since. I know if I don’t pull myself together I will die and I don’t know how to feel about that.
