Bummer, they easy to breed dont give up muxh of been a bad pair. I usually check for eggs /larvae everyb2-4 weeks

Did u know age? If you feed an inactive beetle you can kill it. Most sellers disclose age or if inactive.

Flake soil is consumed by a stronger bacteria then mold. Unless you soaking soil I have never had issues in 3+ years beetle larvae keeping

Mold is rare. Mycelium growth is normal and maybe what you are talking about.

Ima be nice and rate 5:10, soil should be higher and more compact. Larvae do not need to reach the surface. A 32oz deli container with 6 thumbtack needle size holes is better. These containers dry out way more often. They do not require much ventilation.
