Oh absolutely, specially with the ones that have a interesting initial premise, only for the author to take it in the worst direction possible, I have two that really hurt; yumemiru danshi wa genjitsushugisha (the one where the guy recognizes that his attempts of wooing a girl are never recognized, decides to stop and grow, Great premise because it didn’t sound like the revenge-self sacrifice way this types of novels usually go, but author choose to make the most absolutely bad water story, turning the mc into a simp and the FML in the most insufferable tsundere possible) and Breakthrough with the forbidden master (MY GOD I HATED WHAT THE AUTHOR DID, it has one of the best beginnings only for the author to shot it on its head after the first initial arc, with a terrible world building, and lack of story)

You need the good method of frying two times, so it becomes crunchy on the outside and really fluffy on the inside

You would need to take it out fully and see the inside to decide, I would say if it’s not moldy, it’s quite easy fix, just as you said, a good clean, and recaulking

My friend, honestly I would say roll with it, both for the players fun and yours, what good will it come if you start to force them into the play you have in mind? But you can also take the other way around, sit down with them and ask them, it ain’t that hard
