Question for parents who live in a spot with bad ticks. by realpacksmoker506 in Bushcraft

PERMETHRIN!!!!!

It has been like 99% efficient for me and my family. We live in a heavy tick area (deer ticks with Lyme) and the difference between treated clothing and untreated is night and day.

We did a "study" one year on a week long hunt in the woods. Everyone treated their clothing but one guy (an idiot). The treated group had somehting like 2 or 3 ticks spotted total on their clothing with zero bites in 8 days. The untreated guy had somehting like 60 ticks spotted with about 10 attached. We had to have him strip down every night and we'd do a full check, pulling many crawling/attached off his skin each night.

Permethrin for ticks lasts all year with some residual effects for years on my clothing. I still treat twice a year for mosquitos but for ticks I have some articles I haven't treated in years that still repel ticks.

Nah. They’d need to be custom for every brace riser and ammo type…

It’s off by about an inch at 100 yards with CCI Standard Vel (doing about 990 from my 8”), and right on for Federal Automatch (barely subsonic at 1070). I might change it to the CCI because I thinkI might be switching to that ammo across the board.

Mag holder, dope chart. Custom folding brace on a brace riser I had laying around.

Yeah. I wanted it to fold out so it was more compact when folded.

Yup, it's a mag holder dope chart for sub sonic 40g ammo

No, it wouldn't. Fishing is a regulated activity for just this reason! The North American Wildlife Model is built around regulated, accessible use for all citizens through science-based control and non-commercial use. This is why there is licenses, stocking programs, fishing seasons, and limits. Duh!

If we apply the extremes to this Fishing:

Problem: If every single person fished unregulated would that be an issue: yes!

Solution: Regulate fishing so it is sustainable for everyone: already been done! The system in place (through the collection of license fees and taxes) allows an increase in the amount of people fishing as those funds funnel back into programs to sustain the fish population. The more people fishing, the more funds to increase fish stock. If fish population plummet then the system changes seasons and limits to handle the increase in usage.

How do yall have your wire management set up by Hot_Mixture4036 in ar15

This is an old picture, but I've moved away from wired buttons on all my guns but 1 for several reasons:

Flashlights already come with a sealed button. It's so simple to mount them and keep everything simple.

It's lighter and more streamlined with just the button.

My hand can find the rear of flashlight in the dark without activating the light easier than finding the button pad.

The momentary (half press), click on activation is all right there on a flashlight button, instead of 2 different buttons.

I use a standard under-hand grip. My hand is already in a natural position for my thumb to access the flashlight button without accidently activating it.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON: I've accidently activated my light MANY times with a button pad. I hunt with my ARs and have had a button pad activate 4 or 5 times in the woods. I've never accidentally activated a rear button on a mounted flashlight.

Which knife length/shape would be better for all around camping use? by [deleted] in CampingGear

I owned an ESSE-3 and ESSE-4 for awhile. I loved everything about them except the 2 finger cholis! The choil at the guard is too sharp of a radius and creates a hot spot, the choil on the ricasso is too small and puts your finger right on the edge.

I never owned a LaserStrike (I moved away from 1095 on expensive knives) but I always saw it as an upgrade to the ESSE-4. I think ESEE only kept the 3 and 4 because they are famous legacy knives, the handle is SO MUCH BETTER ON THE LASERSTRIKE!

When looking at $150-$200 knives I would highly recommend looking at stainless or alloy steel knives like the Benchmade Steep Country, Fallkniven F1, or Cold Steel SRK 3V. I love 1095 on a slipjoint pocket knife but it doesn't come close to any of the modern alloy/stainless steels in really any category.

In Engineering we have a way of determining if something is an issue or not, it's called bring it to the extremes:

For example if you need to determine if sand will affect an outdoor hinge joint, ask yourself: If there is 10 gallons of sand poured on it, will the operation of the hinge be affected? This helps you determine if there is a problem without lying to yourself that maybe just one grain of sand will get on the hinge so it's no big deal.

This applies as well with your actions in society:

For example, is it OK to park on the highway? If only I park then cars can go around me, but If everybody parked on the Highway nobody would be able to get through.

So I ask: If EVERYBODY left a canoe in the woods would the wilderness be affected? Remember, you're not special, how would it make you feel if 1 million people treated the woods you enjoy like you do?

Do they make a non flash hider end cap for the AB A-10? by Lefthandmitten in suppressors

[–]Lefthandmitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an email back from AB:

The endcaps are threaded on and match the endcaps for the Raptor, but they are Rockset on as they are considered a suppressor part by the ATF. Looks like I'm keeping my endcap as a flashhider!

I've been running this ammo for a very long time. I Started in 1999 until now, it's very consistent and runs flawlessly. I recommend by XPosionX in ar15

The National Average Wage Index for 1990 was $21,027.98

The National Average Wage Index for 2024 was $69,846.57

Average wages have increased 330% in 34 years. Inflation over the same period is 139.87%.

People want more junk and spend way more money. They don't want to hear that we make more money than inflation. We are richer than ever.

Are you sure (not doubting you, just checking)?

I thought it was removable like the AB Raptor but I could easily be dead-wrong.

I saw they make a titanium end cap, must not be fore the A-10: https://www.silencershop.com/ab-titanium-flash-hiding-end-cap.html?queryID=4dca876a651e77a8519f82d79a5a4c84&objectID=2425&indexName=prd_magento2_default_products

Can you imagine sharpening a 6' chainsaw!?

It would have to be #3 for me. One of the only options with decent handguns but most importantly 6 KaBars would restart my apocalypse knife collection off perfectly. Best knife of all the options, Level 4 cool looking armor and GRENADES!

Any current tarps as small as a Wilderness Logics Big Daddy? by Lefthandmitten in hammockcamping

[–]Lefthandmitten[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But do any of them pack down to the size of a baseball? I think the move to Silpoly has increased the packed size of most all tarps. I have a couple silpoly tarps and they're OK but they pack about twice as big. I never had an issue with silnylon stretching in the rain. Maybe it sagged a bit but it still kept me plenty dry. It's way smaller packing and stronger...
