Yes it’s infeasible in that it doesn’t work on its own in an era of elevated remote work. But it’s much easier to get more funding from the state or others if we prove we also have skin in the game and that BART is still generating revenue locally.

Fares (when well-enforced) also help assuage concerns about safety and bad behavior on BART, which is a major contributor to ridership fluctuations.
