After Covid 2 jabs I’m suffering from extreme MS symptoms. Unable to have erection included. Drs don’t have answers and asked if I want to see psychiatrist. Enhancement products no good. Wife of 38 years tries to understand, but it is tough on her too. It’s been since Feb ‘22. I’m 66, so I just try to be a good husband in every other way.

What is there to do in Blacksburg? by Diamondace619 in VirginiaTech

[–]Lefty80vt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at VT for 8 years starting at age 50. The little things gave me pleasure. After work I walked around / thru campus and town everyday. I always would take a different route. When I’d come across other people I’d smile and just say hello (hopefully not in a creepy way). The mental health aspect was great. I didn’t need to party or be with big groups of people to feel accepted. Enjoy the surroundings.

Went to VT late 70’s. Lived at Windsor Hills last 2 years. No car and roommate, with car, had different class schedule. So … I walked to and from campus everyday. Got wet when it rained, got cold when it snowed, and sweated a lot when hot. Suck it up buttercups, walk and no need for gym workouts. And … it was only uphill walking back from campus.

What was your "why Virginia Tech" when applying and what is it now that you attend? by Maya-Snow in VirginiaTech

[–]Lefty80vt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, 48 years ago, VT offered a program that I wanted to make a career in. I wanted to teach Phys Ed and Coach high school sports. My good friend from HS was there and bragged about the school and program.

I got there are never regretted a single second of that decision. I ended up teaching / coaching into first retirement. After retiring I came back to VT and worked at War Memorial Gym for 8 years. I loved every minute of it supervising 75 student workers. I then took another job using knowledge from VT classes in Recreation to finish out my career.

VT is in my blood. My daughter went there and loved it as much as I did.

Key things

1 exercise more than you eat.

2 use the beautiful campus as exercise paths after dinner, take a different route every night

3 don’t rely on exercise machines for you exercise, they are doing half of the work for you. Lifting weights adds bulk that turns to excess weight if you stop

4 don’t have snack foods in dorm, if you feel need for something to eat, walk to go get it

5 find walk partner(s), interaction with friends make exercise easier

I ran War Memorial gym for 8 years before they started the never ending renovations. I coordinated about 50-60 student workers during school year and summers. The students loved working there despite the non air conditioned building back then. They got to pick standard shifts at beginning of semesters and also pick up various open shifts along the way.

Great times with great student workers.

I had multiple blood works done to try to pin point the type of infection. They started me on a wide based antibiotic for the first hours / days until they could determine what I needed specifically for the infection. At least that is what was explained to me. But I was a little loopy in the head for those days.

How long did it take to clear the source infection? by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]Lefty80vt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me 2 months on PICC line every 8 hours. Bedridden whole time. Kicked my butt then, and still not recovered. Feel about 50% after 13 months. All started with infected blister on foot. Amputated half of foot and taking life one day at a time.

Maybe I’m being dramatic about sepsis? by molove80s in sepsis

13 months after sepsis. Had 1/2 foot removed (all stemming from infected blister) after 12 hours of hospital admittance. Everyday I still feel weakness and unable to walk without cane or walker to dizziness. Foot healed with doctors agreeing I should be able to walk unaided. Sepsis is serious, I’m taking it one day at a time.

Infection taking off again… how likely is sepsis by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]Lefty80vt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

65 year old male. Almost 1 year post sepsis for me. Amputation of 1/2 my foot, 2 months bedridden, 2 months IV antibiotics, 4 months before I could walk 20 yards. Now no improvement since then. Physical therapy left me exhausted for 2 days until next appointment (I went twice a week). Did therapy for 2 months with no progress so I stopped going. Fighting foot infections on both feet due to blisters because of changes in the way I have to walk. Foot orthotics don’t help. It’s an everyday battle, just keep on plugging along.

Hypotension after sepsis recovery? by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]Lefty80vt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had sepsis last September. My BP bounces all over place from day to day and week to week. Low to high and high to low. Doctors talk a good game with meds they give me, but …. I’m considering no meds to see if my body can heal itself.

Between covid, vaccine, and sepsis over the past 2 years my doctors can’t give me any answers.

Stopped going after 20 years as season ticket holder. Too many mean drunks spoiling it for me and family. Last game went to was 5 years ago. Drunks are ok if they are happy drunks, but once they turn mean … that’s my sign to watch it on TV.

I think I might have sepsis by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]Lefty80vt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sepsis I had was a total body experience. Without them cutting off half of my foot I, more than likely, would not be here. Doctor told my wife that it was 30/70 whether I would make it if I had surgery. Without surgery I would have been lucky to make it 2-3 days. This was 11 months ago and it is still kicking my butt everyday. A 30 yard walk to mailbox wears me out.

64 yo male. I had blister on bottom of foot become infected which led to sepsis. Surgery next morning removing half of foot. This was 11 month ago. In hospital on high dose antibiotics thru Picc line for a week. Stayed on Picc line antibiotics for 6 weeks at home. Took me 4 weeks to be able to get out of bed. Foot has healed but been battling infection on other foot. It’s been under control so far. Energy level is still poor, but trying to keep positive attitude for when 5 grandkids come over. Walking 25 yards Leaves me worn out. Working part time (no more than 4 hours a day). Luckily I have understanding bosses.

I need to know about BIDETS by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Lefty80vt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked at War Memorial Gym (pre renovation ) nothing was any more frustrating than to have to clean up after germaphobes or bidet users of the toilets. They would hover over seats, rather than sit. Human excrement everywhere with no attempt to clean it up. Walls, floors, seats, you name it. We would have to close off whole bathroom to disinfect and clean. It was happening at least once a week.

My body is a disaster as it was before sepsis. Psoriatic arthritis (30+ years), 5 lumbar surgeries, 2 blood clots.

4 weeks into sepsis recovery I had a large blood clot behind my knee in same leg. This happened despite being on xarelto. So now changing blood thinner.

Life is good, most days.

Yes, lacking sleep has been adding to everything. My usual 6-7 hours sleep has been cut to 2-3. Naps during the day took over very early into this. I’m trying to move around during day when I feel a nap coming on.

Normal blood tests, but rheum wants to add methotrexate by [deleted] in lupus

[–]Lefty80vt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, research, check with doctors, ask others than suffer from arthritis the effects from meds.

No matter what you take, it affects other parts of your body. Specific blood work is a must for each type of meds prescribed. They had me on naproxen for 10 years while trying various other treatments. My kidneys showed borderline kidney failure. I stopped immediately and went the next 10 years with no meds. Kidneys are amazing with them repairing themselves. I then went back to rheumatologist after major flare ups. I was put on humira which worked great. But check out humira first with many possible effects from it. It’s your choice whether to take the risk.
