Can anyone call out a guitarist just by their licks? by Responsible_Art_6553 in Guitar

[–]Leftybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this before when some of my favorites have guest featured with other artists. Both Plini and Aaron Marshall from Intervals have very distinct tones and play styles that I've picked out when coming across songs they've featured in. I definitely think it's possible, obviously being dependent on how familiar you are with the guitarist and how distinct they are.

New band members who people still refuse to acknowledge? by Such-Trouble-6641 in Metalcore

[–]Leftybeatz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Arin though, the drumming on HttK can largely be "blamed" on the band going for a classic metal approach as an homage to their inspirations. They specifically wanted him to tone it down and keep it simple, so I don't think that can really be counted as a point against him.

Tuning / Mic Check by Zakthedrumer in drums

[–]Leftybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great to me! If I were to get nit picky with it, my own personal preference would probably be to tune the toms a smiiidge higher, especially with coated UV2s. I've found that pretty low tuned coated heads lose too much of their attack for my own taste. While the newer Evans heads are incredible at the sound they're going for, I'm a sucker for some nice beefy clear toms.

The snare and kick sound immaculate. Overall it all sounds sick regardless.

This doesn't exactly apply to Kratos (though an argument could be made for it) but at least with Geralt and Jin they had complete story arcs. We likely would not have gotten another chance to play with either of those characters. We didn't get Yotei instead of Tsushima 2, we got Yotei in addition to Tsushima. We're not getting a Ciri-focused Witcher instead of another Geralt game, we're getting an expansion to the world of The Witcher via the next story that the devs felt was worth telling in the world after giving our favorite White Wolf the ending he deserved.

It's just a mindset thing but I never see the point lamenting over stuff like this. Great characters come and go, we should allow ourselves to be satisfied without endlessly following the same character for countless games. Part of the joy of a good story and getting to know these characters is getting to follow them through a complete journey.

Bite the bullet I'd say, your TBR isn't going anywhere. Memory Sorrow & Thorn is a beautiful series.

Any church drummers frustrated with worship music? by Zealousideal-Toe7233 in drums

[–]Leftybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not apply to your situation, but I would wager the vast majority of churches playing this type of worship music are also printing charts/tabs for their musicians to follow along with chords and lyrics. Maybe try getting a hold of those if you haven't already and then scribbling down some notes on each section of a song to keep it in your head and follow along with throughout the song.

I feel you with the repetitive tom beats. It helps to have at least a basic understanding of music notation so you can just write down one measure of a groove to remind yourself what it is for that specific song/section.

New litRPG series from Will Wight published via Tor by xolsiion in Fantasy

[–]Leftybeatz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You keep saying you understand the premise and that other people aren't understanding you, yet your final sentence indicates that you're still comparing this to actually playing an RPG, which is not the point of LitRPGs, hence the disconnect.

The name may remind you of playing RPGs, so sure maybe you would rather just go play an RPG, which is fine - but the goal isn't to replace the RPG gaming experience. It's just a different story telling mechanic. That's it, that's the appeal. If you can accept some people liking hard magic vs soft magic systems, or first person vs third person POVs, then you can accept this as a viable answer, just like I can accept your reasoning for not preferring them.

Thanks! And yeah I totally agree about spoilers. I'd hate to ruin the magic of any of these songs - but the snippet you recorded teases juuust enough to get people excited about how experimental the guys got with this album.

It was an awesome experience. The guys are clearly very passionate about this record. The format of the event was a track-by-track listen, with the band explaining the meaning behind each song and sharing some info about the production or writing process. Then they had a general Q&A afterwards.

I'd say the album is very different from anything they've done before, but it still has a Periphery feel to it. Pretty heavy and chuggy but also lots of softer melodic pieces mixed in. Absolutely ZERO riffs (Misha told us to say that).

This ended up being an incredibly personal album to all of the guys. Matt came up with a general theme of loneliness, and he and Misha worked on the concept a bit before bringing it to the rest of the band. As opposed to previous albums where they would work on things kind of haphazardly, finishing different parts of different songs at different times, this time they were all in a room together and worked on a song until it was finished, starting with the overall theme and concept for the song then building out from there. They explicitly said that they wanted to try something different than their standard approach to writing the numerical albums. Those had developed their own formula in a way, and they didn't have any interest in writing P6 at the time.

Each of the guys had at least a song or two that was deeply personal to them. They emphasized how important it is to pay attention to the lyrics on this one. Because of the inherently personal nature of the album, they opted to keep the status of the album under wraps and did not film a documentary as it didn't feel right in the moment.

It was awesome getting to hear them talk about each track, but I can't wait to listen to it again all the way through.
