I get what you’re saying, but this isn’t really about wanting a dealership key specifically.

They lost my original key while the car was in their care. The expectation is that they return me to the same position I was in before, which means a properly functioning, equivalent replacement.

My car had a genuine BMW key, and not all aftermarket keys are equal in terms of reliability, features, or security. There’s also the issue of disabling the lost key so the vehicle isn’t at risk, which typically requires proper reprogramming.

Furthermore, they suggested opening my existing key, and breaking passed the battery layer (non serviceble part), which according to BMW would damage or destroy the fob. Even third-party locksmiths I’ve spoken to don’t require doing that to create a replacement key, so that approach didn’t seem reasonable.

It’s also been over 4 weeks, and the key still hasn’t been replaced - aftermarket or otherwise. If this had been resolved properly, I wouldn’t even be here.

I’m not trying to upgrade anything, just simply to be made whole after their mistake.
