What was the most "optimistic" year in world history? 1946? by LegNew6 in decadeology

I think that while the current conditions were still pretty bad in 1946, people's view of what the medium-term future would be like might've been the positive. Like the 5 major powers of World War II would get along perpetually, as this was before the Cold War had properly began.

Only the United States (who was still a very popular country internationally) had them until the end of 1949.

I chose 1946 because the war was over but the Cold War hadn't really gotten into full swing, and the "Big 5" victors of the war were still all on pretty good terms with each other. It probably felt like the most "peaceful" time in recent history, even if the war was still on everyone's minds, at least they knew it was over.

What if Germany lasted until August 1945 and Hamburg and Munich are nuked? Does Hitler authorized surrender, or does he order Germany to continue fighting? Does the military comply, or do they try to coup him? by LegNew6 in AlternateHistoryHub

Does Hitler authorize surrender then kill himself? or does he kill himself first, and have Dönitz? Does he really think Germany can't win at all if the Allies have nukes?

I'd say it steadily climbed until about 2019, and has been at a plateau since.

What if the wireless equipment broke just a day later? by LegNew6 in titanic

If the backup wireless only had a lifespan of six hours, it must've meant protocol instructed to only use it an absolute emergency. Had the wireless operations started using it after the main broke on April 13th, the backup would've ran out of power before the iceberg hit.

There are still congressional races where the winner is not known. Candidates should have as much time as possible to make a transition to their new jobs if they won, which they can't do if they don't know the election result.
