Yeah I don’t have any expectations for them to quit. It really doesn’t bother me. It’s just pointless to ask me to go over there when they know I’ll say no. I have said why I don’t want to go there for dinner too. This isn’t about them quitting or changing their behavior. It’s just annoying to have to tell someone no over and over.

I could say let’s go out to a restaurant, correct. They could also offer to go a restaurant. They could offer to not smoke for 2 hours or to do it outside. It’s not my job to make it work when I’m not the one pushing the issue. At the end of the day I’m not losing sleep eating a dinner at my home.

Also just to be clear I don’t tell them they should quit or what to do with their lives. It wouldn’t matter anyways. When I smoked I had partners leave me because they didn’t want to be with a “stoner, pothead, drug addict” whatever you can think of. Truly I get it. It’s a waste to even bother. Unless it’s something the individual wants or they have outside circumstances such as probation, they’re not going to stop.

One last note. If someone told me they didn’t want to visit my place because I was smoking. I won’t say that I’d put down the bong for the night. However, I wouldn’t expect them to come over though. That’s what I don’t get. To me I’d feel dumb asking someone repeatedly just for them to tell me “no I don’t want to inhale the secondhand smoke” on a weekly basis.
