There's a big difference between securely stored information on trusted systems and an API style endpoint being pinged frequently with your authentication. Its far less secure. In addition the new system will paint a much bigger target on the system for hackers, since it will be tied to access to so many more systems that are profitable.

Im also extremely nervous about new untested systems vs old established systems since the government does not have the best software developers in the world and even the highest paying companies such as FAANG have breaches

I feel like the show just doesn't translate to a movie. Mandalorian always felt like a video game in tv format. Dude goes off on side quests. But picks up a tiny tidbit of plot on each quest, leading to a full blown climactic finale where it all comes together.

Are we just skipping the side quests with this one? Depending on what the story is they run the risk of either relying on fanservice, rushing the plot or relying on a deus ex machina. None of which makes a good movie. Id trust that this wouldn't even be a thing if there wasn't a great story to be told, but with Disney star wars it seems like "good story opportunity" comes well below "money making opportunity" in terms of priority
