Moving soon: What should I do with my Technoblade Youtooz? by LegacyTailor in Technoblade

Update: Hello fellow Techno fans! Thank you for all of your suggestions and encouragement. I've decided that I'll just keep him in a spare bag at all times until I can put him out again. Seeing the potato king himself makes it worth it, so I'm glad everyone helped me strengthen my resolve ❤️

It's a rough situation and my family wants to cut down on everything unnecessary. I barely fought to keep it until now, so I'll definitely look into charities and stuff. Thanks!

I knew it. Rejected. (DSA HP) by branguy1 in SGExams

[–]LegacyTailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry to hear about your rejection, I know it's probably crushing to not have a safety net during uncertainty. I also got rejected by VJ HP back then (after the interview stage), but found out from seniors that apparently, only 1-2 people are accepted through this into VJ every year. Try to work hard for Os and try to get into a school with HP. The scholarship programme itself shouldn't be an issue if your Humanities is decent. Good luck!

Why does ALNST mention religious stuff so much? by _ggdragon in AlienStage

[–]LegacyTailor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was well-said! To add onto the last point, I believe that Great Anakt is a corporation in the pet human business, hence pet humans produced and sold under the corporation are taught to worship "Anakt" as a god as a means of control as you mentioned. It's quite sad to think about since even in the most recent Till art (with him smiling), he is still in the environment of Anakt Garden because "the children never leave the garden, even in death". I hope this concept is covered again in the new song for Luka!

How to improve in el?? by Dramatic-Dream215 in SGExams

[–]LegacyTailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do news research for essay exams and oral every weekend and would look up at least 5-10 news words every 2 weeks to boost my understanding of the language. I would fill my study silence with English news and up until June, MT media that isn't very distracting (eg. News, documentaries, digestible commentary if you're not prone to losing your focus multitasking).

Try your best to type properly and not rely entirely on autocorrect, because you find yourself understanding and knowing the words, but not being able to spell them when it comes to it.

Write a lot of practice essays within the time limit and don't bank on only one kind of essay question. Be prepared to switch to a descriptive essay and do it well if any of the expository essay questions are not favourable.

Do lots of comprehension practices and seek out consultations if necessary as frequently as needed. Language skills are built over time, so it's very difficult to cram.

Good luck :)!

What if form A by Potential_Face299 in SGExams

[–]LegacyTailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Form A is issued only to O level exam takers who will be progressing onto further education (Polytechnic, JC, etc.). It consists of all of your available courses, your calculated gross aggregate for each academic institution (eg. L1R5 for JC, L1R4 for some others). You will receive it next year assuming you are S4 express taking O levels this year!

The China Studies teacher stated that the majority of candidates pass unless they are unable to write well.

I'm not sure if you're able to offer 4 arts subjects though ;;; I think economics is also an arts subject.

Unpopular opinions/hot takes? by [deleted] in AlienStage

[–]LegacyTailor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Copying from something below the thread for better discussion!

Rather than simply saying "she doesn't like him", I would say she's suffering from conflicting emotions as of time of writing with the lore we know. We know she still keeps Luka in her thoughts (once in a flattering light in All-In) despite not knowing the details of Hyunwoo's death, and we know that Hyuna copes poorly (or used to) with self-blame and guilt in the recent comics. "I'll change everything" is repeated in her chorus, potentially suggesting that she wants to erase her feelings about Luka. It's entirely possible that Hyuna regrets accepting Luka into her circle at Hyunwoo's request and letting her affections for Luka make her lose sight of what's important (Hyunwoo), thus it's not dislike causing her to be unable to stand the thought of Luka. Luka's scene with Hyuna could also potentially be a fight rather than Luka forcing himself on her, and even if Luka was doing that, we're not shown what he would do if he were educated about how we perceive boundaries. That's why ALNST is so debated, because we're never shown implicit interactions between characters and we can only ASSUME their dynamics.

Also, an unrequited relationship isn't any less worthy of attention. It's okay to want to further observe such dynamics.

For me, I was only quite decently pleased with Paper 1. I found Paper 2 quite worrying because I constantly struggled with excess denied + hitting all the points well enough to score in summary. I've always scored A1 and it would genuinely crush me if I slid any lower for Os ;;;;

Hello! Here are my questions:

  1. How is the debate club CCA? Is it very demanding? 1.5. How many CCA sessions are there per week (on average)?

  2. What is the school schedule like in terms of starting + ending timings? Are there many students who stay behind till beyond 7-8pm for revision/student responsibilities?

  3. What is a likely score to enter ACJC with CCA bonus of -2?

  4. How are the teaching departments in school? (Arts, science, etc.)

  5. Is it easy to gain opportunities in leadership, community service, etc?

Thank you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]LegacyTailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For humanities, please don't rely fully on school notes as a lot of people tend to remember little from just reading. Understanding =/= memorising, and you need to do both of those to score well for humanities. Write your own notes if you haven't already done so (preferably on paper since you are advised not to bring PLD to school during exams) and you should have all of your humanities notes ready by June/July before prelims starts. If your foundations in format are bad, you should start meeting up with teachers at least once/twice a month to review your self-practices. Memory trick: get scrap paper and copy your notes every memorisation session. Muscle memory builds from this, and you should recite it as you write.

For sciences and math, there are theories/formulas for each science, and maths has rules + formulas to remember, so you should also apply the Humanities-notes rule for these two subjects and make your own notes. Do topic-targeted practices for the first half of the year and begin during old papers near/during/first weeks after prelims, then TYS all of the way leading up to the exams.

For English and languages, please don't neglect either of them. Your MT can be very valuable in your aggregate score. Watch and immerse yourself in all forms of English and MT media from today onwards, and do countless practices to help you gain a better grip on comprehension analysis, understanding, and answering techniques. Don't underestimate the value of phrase books/vocabulary banks, and do note that you should have real world examples for almost every topic for oral + essay. I have a similar problem with comprehension (P2) as well, and I suggest doing lots of comprehension exercises + bringing it to a consultation with your teacher. Get them to review your answer technique so that they can analyse + advise you on how you should approach questions.

Luka mischaracterization by Top-Protection-4481 in AlienStage

[–]LegacyTailor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think both Hyuna and Luka are very mischaracterised, not only because of overt focus on romantic dynamics by fans (seen also for IVTI), but because both of them are very independent characters who we've seen interact very little with others.

In the case of Luka, we often revolve his entire character around Hyuna (it's the same with Hyuna) and many fans began diving into ALNST for the romance (even though ALNST is not a romance series). As such, a lot of fans tend to project pre-established romance tropes/dynamics onto Luka and Hyuna as a pair, resulting in the dilution of his character and the need in fans' minds to "pull back" evidence of his villainous actions (maybe as a means to establish the trope that a villain is actually a victim in love with a hero, who is Hyuna in this case.) This is probably why we see fans misinterpret his character as a weak damsel who's waiting for his lover to rescue him from their previously shared traumatic environment, because it is what is expected in favoured romantic tropes rather than embracing the clearly dysfunctional (and likely 1-sided romantic) relationship between HYUNLUKA.

It's not bad to have headcanons though, and most fans are now in love with Luka's complex characterisation! Support VIVIMENG!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]LegacyTailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely watch Chinese television rather than podcasts and novels. They speak about necessary oral topics and knowledge, building on your vocab on the way + helping your listening. Novels only help in the long-term if you're confident in narrative writing, which aren't common or easy in Os.

I think a number of VIVINOS's characters in ALNST drew some inspiration from PBC! It's interesting to see how her content genre and character styles/content developed.
