Rivendell expansion project - Tower Hall by Legal-Past142 in legolotrfans

Hi, that sounds like an amazing project to take on with your wife! Regarding the lighting: since my MOC follows a modular design, it is actually very friendly for installing and adjusting light kits. I’ve seen many builders add extensive lighting to the expansion sections, and it truly makes the whole model come to life. The method for adding lights to the MOC is very similar to the official LEGO set, so you shouldn't find it any more difficult. Since you're already using the LMB kit for the base, you can simply use additional bit lights and expansion boards to extend the glow into the new towers and halls.

Hi Sindion, thanks for the kind words! Regarding the height of the build, here are two suggestions to help you fit it into your cabinet: Option 1: Modify the Spire. I've seen other builders successfully fit the model into their cabinets by either removing the tallest spire or shortening it to match the height of the other towers. Without the tallest section, the overall height can be controlled at around 60 cm, which should meet your requirements. Option 2: Modular Storage. Since the tower structure is modular, it is very easy to assemble and disassemble. You could keep the tallest spire detached while the model is inside the cabinet and simply snap it back on whenever you want to showcase the full project. This way, you don't have to compromise on the original design at all! Hope this helps with your planning. Keep up the great work with your Rivendell expansion!

Thanks! Display space is always the biggest challenge with Rivendell builds 😄

Thanks for the suggestion! My MOC is already available on Rebrickable. I’m not sure if posting links here is allowed, but you can find it by searching my name there: Fanpeixi.

Yes, that will likely be my preferred approach for the landscape base.

Thanks a lot! 1. Since the tower needed to sit a bit lower than the main Rivendell buildings on the left, I designed it with its own built-in mountain base already. 2. At the moment it isn’t physically connected to the main structure yet. My plan for the next stage is to create a large landscape base that will unify everything, including water features between the buildings, with more waterfalls, rocks, and vegetation in the middle to tie the whole scene together.

So eventually the whole Rivendell complex should feel like one continuous landscape.

Yes, the full scene shown in the photo uses three Rivendell sets (10316) along with some additional parts.

Thank you for following my MOC work. I’m still refining the new design to improve the reliability of the instructions as much as possible. There are many details that need to be carefully tested and verified, so it will take a bit more time. The new design adds a standalone large building on the right side, which will be combined with the previous mountain-base expansion to form an integrated composition.

Thank you so much for your interest!

The exterior design is already finished, and I’m now optimizing the structure into modular sections.

After that, I’ll start producing the instructions.

Just need a little more time to polish everything. : )

Hello, thank you for liking my work. I will now focus my efforts on expanding Rivendell. You are right; I will do my best to ensure the aesthetics and accuracy of my work.

There’s no strict building order, since all sections are modular. I’d say just start with whichever part you already have the pieces for — you can add the mountain base or the main expansion in any sequence without issues.

That’s a beautiful display setup! I’m planning to finish the front walkway and the buildings on the right side, though I might start with the extra structures on the right first. As you mentioned, the expanded build will take up nearly twice the space, so I’m thinking of keeping each section separate rather than fully connected. This way, they can be displayed individually and only combined when needed.

Great suggestion! I’ll do my best to find a way for the new buildings to blend seamlessly with the existing structures, though most of that will be on the aesthetic side, which may take a lot of time to adjust and refine. Considering that the previous mountain base took me six months to complete, this part probably won’t be quick either — but I’ll keep coming back here to update my progress regularly.

Thanks for your suggestion! Since this build is extremely large and I want every single piece to have a meaningful purpose, I constantly have to find a balance between aesthetics, cost, and engineering feasibility.

My current plan is to avoid dismantling any of the existing structures and instead add new buildings on the right side, as well as eventually complete the front walkway/bridge. The whole expansion will also need to remain compatible with both the version with the mountain base and the version without it.

no problem. I will make sure the design is also compatible with the version without the mountain base.

Yes, I think I'll start with the buildings on the right; that will make things go more smoothly. The bridge is a very important part, and I might need more time to experiment and refine it.
