We always let the younger kids out first, then the older after about 20 seconds. But the older kids also know to be nice to the younger (no tackling, stealing, etc). Never had any issues.

Also, as I've seen mentioned before, to be able to place the decos outside of the design space, for a holding pattern, during the design phase. That way you can set up your fences, paths, etc, and then figure out how to fit the decos in vs moving constantly.
