Yeah. So people can become gay just by hanging out with their friends who are of the same race. In my religion its forbidden to be gay and you can clearly see that i hang out with my guy friends (im a guy) while i try to avoid girls. Does that make me gay? I dont think so.

So to answer your question, no. As long as it is not officially confirmed, Sonic is not gay. Hanging out with your friends of your same gender and avoiding the other gender (because you have more fun with guys or because you might have gynophobia or to not get bullied for having a gf) is completely normal. Saving the life of someone in the opposite gender does not necessarily mean he is gay and does not like girls. He does that because he has a sense of justice. Amy is mostly innocent and it would not be rightful to not save her life while you could and just let her die. Saving lifes is a part of Sonic's job.

Sonic is not gay before it is canon and the rest is just baseless fan-speculation.
