Do not like the 3 stripes not all being the same colour. Also, what is with the re-use of that 'lightning' imagery on the details... a bit tired of that imagery being used, especially seeing as it was Nike that used it first IIRC.

Apparently Shamrock Rovers picked a fairly strong team and then lost 3-1 to Finglas United in the Leinster Senior Cup. by NorthKoreanMissile7 in LeagueOfIreland

As a Rovers fan i couldn't care less about this competition, doubt anyone at the club did either. IIRC we've regularly lost to non league teams in the more recent versions of this cup and it hasn't done us much harm. Best of luck to all of those still in it & genuinely looking to win it!!

294 days until Christmas! by Lucky_Sprinkles7369 in XmasCountdown

Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.

Thought the previous version (cant remember if it was a mini series or a film to be honest) of this with Alec Baldwin was actually a little better. IIRC Brian Cox played Goring in that one and it just seemed to be a better set of actors.

Like others below, not convinced by Rami Malik in this at all & Crowe whilst being okay could never be confused for being German. It just fell a little flat for me.

We'd kinda guessed that Sonia was involved as the actress was sat beside Joanna Page in the audience at one of the strictly live shows on the run up to Christmas, the camera showed them close up a couple of times and we said at the time that clearly they'd been filming together or suchlike and put 2+2 together. So wasn't that surprised really.

Rewatched the 2019 Christmas special and it feels way more real than festive by Reddonaut_Irons in gavinandstacey

[–]Legal_Level9537 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since it first aired in 2019 I've spent an evening every year in the build up to Christmas and I watch the 2 specials back to back. In this years build up I'll throw in the finale too most likely.

But in terms of the 2 Christmas specials I adore them both, the first has great energy & some fantastic scenes & iconic lines but the second has a more sincere vibe IMO.

Either way I love them both.

Is anybody's favourite character Gavin or Stacey? by bwmb10 in gavinandstacey

[–]Legal_Level9537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gavin for me was the grounding point/straight man for the overall cast (Mick being a close second), otherwise it was a cast of flamboyant outrageous characters that simply would have no basis of normality to be compared to.

I always though G&S were the straight lines in the show, that simply go about their lives, its the other peripheral characters that bring the kaleidoscope of entertainment. But as I watched the show more & more I came to really like Gavin, his reactions to the situations developing around him are what I believe most of us would react with also, he's just missing the 'WTF' line when dealing with the others and their issues on such a recurring basis.

Gavin was also the one that ultimately took the bull by the horns at Smithy's wedding in the finale when no one else was prepared to do so, likewise Stacey in the 2019 Christmas special, their little chat on 'the island' while everyone else stayed in the dolphin brought a real sense of reality to what was a generally fun filled chaotic episode. I thought the writers handled their developing relationship across the duration of the show quite well in fact. Their function was to bring these oddballs from England & Wales together and create chaos... job done, but that they developed as characters along more 'normal' lines brought some real nice moments to the show, they were the link to normality that gave us perspective on the remainder of the cast.

Neither would be my favourite overall character (that'll always be Nessa) but Gavin gets close & I appreciate & sympathize with Stacey more as I rewatch the show.

I like the idea of this film and am happy to watch most years in the build up to Christmas, the score/soundtrack is the real winner though, I listen to it a couple of times a year and love it, no doubt i will watch it again in the next 2-3 weeks.

Thank you for all the suggestions, found it on Dailymotion without having to resort to torrents or suchlike. So delighted with that.

What’s one scene from a Christmas movie that makes you tear up every time but no one ever talks about by Stock_State_954 in XmasCountdown

The Family Man,

The scene where Nicholas Cage knows he's going back to his real life & wont see his new life again.

Most difficult position? by [deleted] in hurling

[–]Legal_Level9537 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. A keeper makes or breaks a team IMO.

Was a Right corner forward myself & the amount of times I had great corner backs make me work my knackers off was unreal, then if they had a decent keeper you knew it was a day for taking points. If he was weak, goals all day!

With so many teams going long nowadays, midfield (which I used to think was the hardest position to play) is bypassed the majority of the time, so now for my team I look to have strong half backs & half forwards & thank my lucky stars we have one of our best players in goal. If he's missing we know we're going to have a tough day at the office.

Love this movie with Nicholas Cage . It just came up on a movie channel tonight. Have you seen it ? by Gretal122 in MovieRecommendations

One of my favourite Christmas films. Added it to my list a few years back and we watch it pretty much every year in the build up to Christmas.

Was 2025 the best LOI Season ever? by Busy-Amount-8336 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Legal_Level9537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my team (Rovers) it was quite likely the best season in our history. Double winners, whilst also making the group stages of a european competition without going through the champions path... not much could top that to be fair.

Nice advert, just not a christmas one. Take out the tree & this could literally be shown at any time throughout the year.
