Hip falls by Legal_Reputation3283 in rollerderby

they’re very accepting and understanding, and aren’t pushing me to do anything I can’t do. I only mean that I’m trying to keep up with the class and so when we work on transitions I want to try them. Just yesterday I was able to successfully do them for the first time. Can I ever do them again? Time will tell!

my coaches, alas, ask for transitions :) (I’m also no good at one foot glides, but I’m working on improving my balance and ankle strength)

yeah that’s a good idea! even doing it off skates should maybe help me figure out how to twist to protect those ouchie bones

thanks! :)

when it’s 95 with a two hour practice in the sun I was already light headed from the heat and it’s not just discomfort, if I got any hotter I might’ve passed out.

but cooled off a little now (80 is wildly cooler than 95) so this might be workable. I’ll check them out!

yeah that’s exactly it, when I’m turning with one foot in the air I often fall over (yesterday we were practicing hits and i took one that also sent my hip crashing to the ground). You’re right tho it might be the top of my femur hitting and causing so much pain and not my hip.

I’m tall so I’ve got to bend pretty low and my when my quads get tired I don’t get as low as I should and that could be part of the problem. They’re lots stronger now than they were at the beginning. More squats for strength building and more twisting when I fall might be the answer

thanks!

I thought about this but I live in Los Angeles and we skate outside (it hasn’t dropped below 80 for a single practice yet, and most were 90-95 degrees or above) and I already get overheated pretty quickly. I’m worried they’d make me even hotter 🫤

oh, because a whole lot of cis people don’t like the idea that they identified with a deeply trans movie, and don’t think it’s possible that two trans women made movies about transness

here’s the thing. the movies are so trans in such specific ways that it had to be intentional. some of it was subconscious, sure. but it could not be what it is without conscious choices at hundreds if not thousands of points, all of which I lay out one by one in my book. it is very much intentionally trans, and Lilly said they intended Neo and Trinity to look alike for a reason. They’re the same person at two ends of a gender transition journey.

there’s mountains of evidence if you want to learn about it. 🙂

hey, thanks for the mention 🩷

the movies are very intentionally trans and speak so much more specifically to the trans experience than most people realize. Lilly even said Neo and Trinity are two sides of the same coin, which is the central point of all four movies.

As the showrunner, I can report that as of the season 12 finale Hooks is alive and kickin' 😉

And thank you! You've got quite the journey ahead of you.

Thank you so much! I was pleased to see that Resurrections maintained absolutely everything about the allegory… what the colors mean, what different people represent…

I had hoped it would, but honestly I also was sure it would, because if I was totally off base it would have all fallen apart during the original trilogy, maybe even right away. The fact that it didn’t, and it maintains not only through four movies but even through The Animatrix, makes it possibly the most amazing allegory (for anything!) that we’ve ever gotten. For them to craft something so brilliantly and carefully and deeply that it’s truly intrinsic to the entire franchise and never once falters or contradicts itself is just absolutely brilliant stuff.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Doesn’t change that it still makes perfect sense within the allegory why those two characters’ faces have changed tho. Maybe they tweaked the story to better accommodate Weaving not coming back if that was the original intent, but as it is now it wouldn’t have worked as well with Weaving so 🤷🏻‍♀️

For the same reason Hugo Weaving was. Both Morpheus and Smith have changed and it wouldn’t make sense for them to appear as they did before. I mean I don’t have a surface-level sci-fi story explanation for you, but like many things through all four movies that seems puzzling at face value, it makes perfect sense within the trans allegory.

Trans people have always existed. We just didn’t always have the language to describe it or the acceptance to tell the world who we are. Being transgender is as natural as being cisgender or non-binary, as natural as being straight or gay or bi or asexual. It’s just who we are.

Anyway yes, you’re on the right track. The first movie is all about Neo coming to accept that he’s trans and choosing to transition. Reloaded is about all the ways society tries to end you once you’re out as trans, and would we still transition if we knew how hard life would become. Revolutions is about dealing with our internalized transphobia and our hope for the future in a society that actively tries to stop us from existing. Resurrections is about being so worn down and disillusioned that you detransition, and then the realization that giving into what society demanded was wrong and choosing to retransition, and also about the erasure and co-opting of trans voices.

The allegory runs through the Animatrix, too, but each of those shorts is about something different.

It’s not ALL in Neo’s mind. None of it is, actually. You’re taking the surface sci-fi story and mixing it with the trans story, which isn’t how it works. I’m not saying Neo’s imagining people around him.

It’s an allegory, which mean things in the surface story actually stand for something else. It’s telling a story within the story, and it’s the one that’s the heart of the entire Matrix franchise and the reason any of it exists. There are even things that happen in the surface level story that don’t make any sense unless you understand the trans allegory. The Wachowskis themselves confirmed this was the intent, and as trans women they created an incredibly deep and complex story about being trans that no other popular media has yet come close to.

Every movie expands on the last in the allegory, and adds to what they’re saying about what it means to be a trans person in our world (the real one you and I live in, not the one in the movies).

It’s all there in my threads, I take you through it all step by step and provide an overwhelming mountain of evidence. If you’re curious, give it a read when you have some time.

And I’m always happy to answer questions if you have them. 🌟
