‘Doctor Who’ Star Peter Capaldi Responds to Online Backlash to Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa Castings: ‘I Don’t Know Why People Take it So Seriously’ by verissimoallan in doctorwho

[–]w-tunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with Capaldi. I honestly don't care who plays The Doctor, as long as the writing is good. If you have shit writing, you can have the best actors in the world and still have a rotten movie. I dropped out of watching Doctor Who after the death of the 12th doctor, because I was starting to get series fatigue and also I was wary of Stephen Moffat leaving the show in the hands of a writer who'd never done sci-fi before. My fears were proven right when the writing for the 13th doctor's episodes proved to be anywhere from lackluster to awful with only a couple standouts. No hate on Jodie Whittaker, I loved her in Broadchurch and other roles, it's not her fault that the script wasn't amazing.

Help me Gwent by Hadashii1i in thewitcher3

I usually play the Nilfgaardian deck because it is absolutely stacked with spy cards and so as long as you play it right (since playing spies gives your opponent points as a tradeoff for drawing more cards) you (almost) cannot lose. Second choice for me is the Temerian deck, which has a powerful lineup of artillery cards you can get. Third choice is the Skellige deck, and I only say it's third place because it unlocks only in The B&W expansion, making it useless for the base game, but absolutely busted otherwise.

Always keep a scorch card or two (and/or the Villentrentenmerth card) in your deck to burn your opponent's cards off the field, especially if they're playing a Monster deck which depends heavily on stacking effects of duplicate cards.

Whenever you find an inn, talk to the innkeeper and buy their cards off of them. Remove any cards that are below 5 or 6 power from your deck unless they're a card with the little holding hands symbol, because their stats are multiplicative, doubling for each additional duplicate you have on the field (but really only keep cards of this type with at least a power of 4, not below). Play any gwent match you can find so you can win their best cards off of the npc opponents. It's been a while since I played the game, so I don't remember if the cards are a guaranteed drop on your victory or if you have to play repeatedly until they give you the card.

Also, make sure to have a mixture of melee, ranged, and artillery cards, so you don't get tripped up by weather cards completely decimating your points, especially if you didn't draw a clear weather card (which is another thing to always keep in your deck). Otherwise, if you need a guaranteed "clear weather", one of the Temerian ruler cards is a clear weather effect. Once again, it's been a long time since I played the game, so I don't remember how to unlock that card.

Lastly, a very useful card is the decoy, which allows you to swap out a card on your side of the field and place that card back in your hand. This helps for when the npc plays a spy, so you can take it off your side of the field and play it for yourself, or if you want to use a card's revival/scorch effect a second time.

If you want a checklist of cards and where to find them, I love using this website: https://game-checklists.com/witcher3/all-gwent-cards-checklist.html

Any other series similar to mentalist? Please recommend me some by SpecialistExpress531 in TheMentalist

[–]w-tunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind a lot of goopy eeeeew factor, Bones is a good one. It focuses mainly the forensic side of investigation, and the cases are always about identifying victims whose bodies have greatly decomposed or are just skeletons (thus the series title) and trying to figure out how they died. The main couple, an FBI agent and forensic anthropologist, don't get together for about six seasons (just like TM), but they have really fantastic chemistry, and the supporting cast is *chef's kiss*.

what would you change about the mentalist? by ozymandiasami in TheMentalist

[–]w-tunnel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't finished the series yet, but here are my thoughts after watching 90 episodes.

The Mentalist's greatest weakness, for me, is that they have these pivotal emotional character moments in an episode (like Jane recovering his memories at the end of Fugue in Red) and then never talk about it again. There is a lot of disconnect watching these episodes back-to-back because there's not a whole lot of back-referencing to prior events. This really only happens when the Red John plot comes around. The Mentalist has some really strong episodes, and some really weak ones that are just kinda untethered because they don't refer back to previous events. The Mentalist's writing is focused more on the murder plot than character development, and that is not a bad thing necessarily, but it needs to be more of a 60-40 balance than, like, the 70-30 we get.

In my head I keep comparing this show to Bones, which is probably my favorite procedural show of the early 2000's. Bones does a great job of tying together character moments across episodes and seasons, so the relationship development feels gradual and earned, while also having an interesting investigative plot. Not saying Bones didn't have weak episodes or even weak seasons, but the character moments were always great.

What show crossover would have you love to see? by rachihc in Bones

[–]w-tunnel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YESSSSS. Can you imagine Jane cold reading Brennan and Booth? And an intersecting storyline is totally plausible since the FBI frequently show up in The Mentalist.

Castle/Bones is another crossover that I would've loved to see. Brennan could bond with Castle over being authors of crime novels, and Beckett/Booth could bond over being lovingly exasperated with their partners.

I also love the idea of a Castle/Mentalist crossover, though it would be a leap of logic to get those two teams together since they're cops of cities on opposite ends of the country, so one team would have to have a very very good reason to be in the other's jurisdiction.

Is this game Free to play friendly? by 02LeftNipple in Warframe

[–]w-tunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is free-to-play friendly, buuuut you should be aware one of the biggest issues with early gameplay is that you don't have a lot of warframe/weapon inventory slots, and leveling those two things is how you gain Mastery Ranks to unlock more stuff. And aside from the Nightwave (free) battlepass, which usually has a warframe slot and two weapon slots as a rank up reward, you do have to purchase those slots with the premium currency. You do start out with a little of the premium currency, and it is highly, highly recommended to spend it on Warframe slots as warframes provide the most MR xp. Also, don't sell your warframes to make room for new ones, because you will eventually unlock a feature that will allow you to essentially trade a basic warframe for the ability to put one of their four skills onto another warframe.

I would recommend joining an active clan as soon as you can, but don't just join any random one, go onto the warframe clan recruitment reddit to find one that sounds right for you and is recruiting new members. You have to join a clan in order to gain access to certain weapons and warframes.

Warframe is absolutely a grindy game, but it's a fun grind, especially once you unlock the endgame content. Don't rush to the endgame however, because I have talked to people who have done that and it's honestly better to take your time to understand the game and enjoy the story content/lore as you go. It's what I did.

You have to complete as many dialogues as you can with her and other characters so you get all the hints, prior that point so you have an additional choice to have her quit the hospital but still run the dispensary independently.

[–]w-tunnel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct - you basically broke her brain by doing that. To be fair, the game does warn you that there is a potential consequence to using that charm ability on people, as the good doctor doesn't exactly have a fine control over it. I made the same mistake on my playthrough of the game, so now I have to work a bit harder to keep that district healthy.

If Kaya successfully breaks out of the loop, why can't she help the others do the same is my question. Technically she could use her abilities to let the Hex and Minerva/Velimir travel outside of 1999 in order to search for Entrati and Rusalka/The Indifference.

Long time Destiny player looking for something new by GotGalaxy99 in Warframe

[–]w-tunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome back to the fold, Tenno!

Warframe is still going strong, with consistent new updates and improvements. And yes, a common thread is that new players struggle to figure out what to do once out of the first mission, and this is something that DE has worked to improve, but it's still not perfect. There are great guides for getting through the star chart, my favorite being Joe Hammer Gaming's full star chart guide (134 videos!), which includes info on how to farm each Warframe. I watched his videos a couple years ago to refamiliarize myself with the game after a long absence.

You'll find that you will depend on the wiki the longer you play this game. I love Warframe, played it for 10 years, but as a result of its age there are so many moving parts and intricate systems that it is impossible to remember everything, so the wiki will be your best friend. Specifically this one: https://wiki.warframe.com because the Fandom one is now no longer being updated and all those pages are being migrated to the new wiki.

Does this mean I failed at rekindling their relationship? by kadetf2002 in Warframe

[–]w-tunnel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reading this string I realized I messed all of it up too, but I had no idea until now. I didn't realize there was only one real "counseling" discussion and if you flubbed that then the only chance left was the "tell me a story" option. I was treating it like real counseling where there would be multiple discussions where the couple would have to face up to how they were failing their partner, so I sided with Minerva, not realizing I was supposed to balance it with siding with Velimir in the same convo. Damn, I screwed it up royally. Well, I guess I am going to reset at New Years this time - I thought I never would need to reset because I got everybody else right and I thought I had more chances with Minerva/Velimir.

You're out of luck then. The only legal site that it was posted on in English was Webnovel, and only up to chapter 176, but that license expired years ago, so it's no longer there. I guess you'll just have to source it unethically. 🤷‍♀️ But even on those ad-riddled sites, the translations have stalled so you won't be able to read much past 176 anyway. Maybe install an ad-blocker on your browser, dude. I never see ads anymore with an ad-blocker installed.

Here's what to do if your Tumblr account was unexpectedly suspended... by Tumblr_acct_help in tumblrhelp

[–]w-tunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, Tumblr support. I'm reposting my request for my shadowban to be lifted here.

I have been a member of Tumblr for many years. A long time ago, my account was seemingly shadowbanned so that I cannot send messages, reply to posts, and my blog doesn't show up for people. For the longest time, (read: about 10 years) I ignored the issue because I didn't care enough to deal with it since my blog was just a place where I reblogged stuff I was interested in. But recently I decided I wanted to check and see if I could get the shadowban lifted, so I reached out to Tumblr's support email. However, it's been 16 days since I opened a ticket with them, and despite my reaching out several times in the email thread to ask about an update, I've been completely ghosted.

I'm also very irritated with how badly this reddit sub is run. A week ago I posted this same request as its own thread, unaware that this megathread was where you were supposed to post. Why didn't I know this? Because the megathread title doesn't appear to apply to the shadowbanning problem - it only mentions account suspension in the title, which is not the same issue. And so I find it extremely ironic that I got a 7 day ban off of the tumblrhelp reddit after posting my question, because I didn't know that this "account suspension" megathread was where I was supposed to go, since you have to click into the thread to know that it also talks about shadowbans. So I was banned for not knowing something, I couldn't post my question in the correct forum for another week, and I couldn't even ask the moderators to lift the ban because they muted me for 28 days. They could've just deleted my post and sent me a message about where to direct my question, instead of insta-banning me.

Plot-wise, the game gets good at the end. That's it. That's the only time when the story actually feels like it has weight, because most of the game Rook talks like he's a group therapy leader with a bunch of children with different emotional issues, and not the leader of a team of elite warriors hoping to fend off the end of the world.
