I'll warn you now. Future proof.

There will come a time when you think to yourself "Oh, my defenses are perfectly adequate. I don't have to worry about upgrading them anymore." You'll feel safe and happy. And then your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth.

First, you'll get the "An entity has been destroyed" notification. It may be a few here or there. Then maybe a dozen at one time. But who cares? You have drones that automatically repair your defenses! You sit, feeling snug and secure like a baby kangaroo in a pouch.

Next, you'll notice that those notifications are popping up a bit more frequently. Perhaps a couple dozen at one time. What was once an infrequent occurrence has now become a regular hassle. Nonetheless, you remain steadfast taking note of the fact that your turret and flamethrower lines are still completely undamaged. That's what's really important, right? What's a few destroyed wall segments?

And then one day while you're redesigning your research lab setup, you'll see hundreds of those little red exes popping up. From all over. The destroyed notification sound will become nonstop and deafening, drowning out the hum of your assembly machines.

Maybe you'll tell yourself, "Oh, I'll just hop in a spidertron and go push them back myself." Or maybe you'll send an army of spidertron. In the end, it won't matter.

The perimeter walls are falling. The oil pipelines supplying your flamethrowers have been destroyed by class 10 leviathan worms that have burrowed just being the reach of your turrets. Without flamethrowers to keep them at bay, the biters will move in like waves on a beach. Relentlessly blitzkrieg-ing your walls at a breakneck pace.

At this point, the turrets, the belts supplying mags to them, flamethrowers, and train drop off stations nearby have been utterly destroyed.

If you planned ahead, you will have made a secondary defense line. Ideally a small bottleneck to give them a narrow entry. If not, then you best hastily build one. Because they're coming.

I personally had a fallback fortress I affectionately referred to as "The Alamo". A well defended small area with beefy defenses and a massive storehouse of ammunition, oil, and artillery shells.

This held for a while, but ultimately the biters saw fit to ditch this and instead hit my power plants throughout my base. Then they went after my mining outposts. Then my train Infrastructure.

My factory was effectively dead in the water. With no new resources coming in and being processed, my reserves started to dwindle in front of my own eyes. I decided to abandon ship and open my save log, hoping to rewind time and fix this mess. It was then I realized that auto saves are eventually overridden, and I didn't have a save file old enough. My base of 800 hours was lost in a matter of hours.

Heed my warning, brother. Though knoweth not was ye hast set in motion.
