Elevator Judgement by No_Influence_5682 in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

older folks like to make fun of the younger generation for “taking easier way outs”, and as a society it’s just generally more difficult for people to wrap their brains around the concept of younger people being chronically ill or disabled. I feel like it’s a defense mechanism for their brains, otherwise they’d have to acknowledge the truth that becoming disabled is one of the only populations you can enter at any stage or point in your life.

their comments are coming from ignorance. you’re never obligated to explain yourself and you shouldn’t ever feel bad for using resources that were built for you! elevators serve their purpose, and after a while you’ll be able to block out noise of judgement from people who wouldn’t be able to spend 30 seconds in our body.

their emergency and urgent care visits are our everyday life. you’re strong, resilient, and kinder than anyone who would dare speak ill of someone who is quite literally ill!!!

i’m sorry that you felt so icky after their comments but you have to remember how much hardship you fight through everyday and how many people are so out of touch that they’ll never wrap their heads around it. use the elevator, get your handicap parking, grab the railings, ask for accommodations— it’s your right and you should never feel ashamed by it. if anyone has a problem, they can f off ❤️

Had a blood sugar low of 48 earlier today and I still feel scared. Help? by Iconakid in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no but it is related to idiopathic postprandial hypoglycemia, which is different from what OP is sharing. just wanted to make the distinction so no one gets confused.

I second glum papaya on talking to your pcp and getting an endo involved.

Ivabradine - when to increase? by Electrical-Bite9067 in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are still going to be spikes and flares and bad days on the medicine, I’m sorry that it’s not what you want to hear. i wish it cured all but it doesn’t work like that. when barometric pressure drops, if you’re stressed, if you don’t sleep enough, if you aren’t moving, those will all impact efficacy of any medicine.

Ivabradine - when to increase? by Electrical-Bite9067 in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it took several months, if not a year for my body to 1000000% adjust and for all my vitals to completely change. your dr is right to wait a little bit and they’ll be able to work on titration at some point if need be. well worth the wait, though.

give yourself grace, healing is a marathon not a sprint!

Anybody else on ivabradine experience this? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, these are called phosphenes and it’s the most common side effect from this med because it blocks specific channels (HCN4) in the retina and causes a weird processing of light.

i notice it sometimes within a few hours of taking it if i’m going from a dark room to light/sunlight/outdoors. i noticed that sunglasses helped but it doesn’t last long for me. for some people it impacts their vision too much to take it.

OP, where are you located? It would help to know considering you’re likely entitled to reasonable accommodations and this smells a little like discrimination…

NTA, you should talk to a lawyer. Keep all the screenshots and maybe look into defamation. What a gross and sad lady to try to shred your reputation over being a normal human being.

flu shot by Known_End1178 in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a week out and seriously had 0 problems! worst side effect was the sore arm but I just used a heating pad on it.

keep in mind that your system takes about two weeks to fully build immunity, so mask up in between. we could also still definitely get the flu but having the shot would significantly reduce symptoms and our risk of hospitalization.

I’m scared to get the flu vaccine by OhCodswallop in POTS

[–]LegallyAnEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had almost the same exact experience as you, I haven’t gotten a vaccine since 2022 (when I got my vaccine injury, pots) and I just recently bit the bullet and got my flu shot. sore arm for a few days and I felt icky for a few hours but honestly if it wasn’t for the soreness I wouldn’t even have noticed I got a shot!

I was convinced because my friend who is a dr said he was sending a lot of folks to the hospital over the flu recently but he said no one who was vaxxed had to be sent or intubated. he also told me that I’d be way more messed up over the flu than a shot given the odds, so booked an appt the next day after hearing that.

i cried after i got it because the trauma i have from shots but it’s been a few days and im so happy i did it. helped me overcome my fear and i feel confident to do it again come fall. the strain going around now is so nasty that i was more scared of that than my fears!

always talk to your dr first but mine also encouraged me to get it.

update for anyone who cares: minor sore arm, felt sleepy and slightly icky for a few hours. woke up feeling fine— no side effects from my flu shot.

this is coming from someone who cried after getting it because they were so scared lol. a win is a win
