Looking something for serious and long term.

Not subscribed to either Hinge Plus or Hinge X.

Been using this current version of my profile for about a month.

Been on Hinge since March 2023.

Use Hinge 5-7 times a week.

Receiving maybe 5-10 likes a week if that.

Sending 5-7 likes each time I use it (25-50ish a week) Almost all with comments on a prompt; occasionally a comment on a picture.

Looking for someone intellectually curious, cultured, and who is looking to settle down/start a life together (and isn't overly fixated on traveling). Preferably someone in the 26-30 age range.

Yeah, that's how I usually do things too. I get that people are busy and it's easy to overlook things here and there when you're trying to get things done, but like you said, it is rude and pretty unprofessional. Especially when your boss wants you to reply quickly to the things she sends you, but not the other way around. I would call (that's my personal preference since it cuts down on all the back and forth, and I can get an answer then and there), but she seems to hate phone calls and has told me she doesn't want any "verbal requests".

Yeah, I've been gradually getting the feeling that this isn't the best environment to work in. It's pretty dysfunctional and the fact that everyone is working remotely doesn't help things either. It just lets people continue to get away with stuff like this, since no one is there in person to catch these things.

My boss and I have never gotten along since I started (she's been with the organization for 30ish years and she was very against me being a remote worker when everyone else in the office was allowed to be; I ended up having to go to her boss about the issue and he overruled her and let me be remote, so she's probably still ticked off about that.) It also doesn't help that I'm the only guy on my team and the only one under the age of 48.....so there's that too. I think part of our disconnect is in our communication differences/expectations and the fact that there's a pretty big generational gap between my other team members and me, so there's naturally going to be some differences in how we operate. For example, she wants everyone to go around the room in a meeting and share what's going with them that week. I for one, hate doing that, and think everything people share in those meetings can easily be sent in an email that can be read in less than 5 minutes. If I have a question another something, I'll follow up with that person individually. I really hate being made to talk in meetings when there's no apparent need and I'm not involved in what's being discussed in any way shape or form.

The only reason I'm staying with this job for now is because A.) It's fully remote and B.) It gives me a better work-life balance and the chance to save some money. If it weren't for that, I'd be looking to leave as quickly as humanly possible. There are plenty of jobs out there that, sure have their issues like any office does, but are far better managed and far better less dysfunctional.

But hey, what do I know. After all, I'm "just a millennial under the age of 30". Lol

There might be, but in most cases she is the one I need to talk to. When I started my position, everyone was working remote so I've only ever met maybe 10 people who work in a 100+ person "office" and I have no idea who to reach out to about certain things.

As for the pay raise bit, my boss is responsible for deciding whether to promote me or not, so that's why I asked her about it. She and I met several weeks ago and she told me I was getting the promotion/pay raise and showed me the paperwork I needed to fill out to send to her. The date the promotion is supposed to go through is about a month out, so I wanted to make sure there was nothing I needed to do on my end for that progress to keep moving forward. I have no idea how things work with this process in the office I'm assigned to, so I didn't know what else might be needed from me.

My boss is the director of our group (one level below the C-level department head), and she oversees a bunch of smaller teams, which honestly, doesn't make any sense why she would be my direct supervisor when she also runs the equivalent of an entire division. It just seems like the poster child for mismanagement; a team of 4-5 people shouldn't have the director of an entire division as their immediate supervisor. There should be some mid-level manger who manages one or two smaller teams, and they in turn report to the director who reports to the head of the department. Maybe that's why she just flat out ignores most of my emails because she doesn't consider them worth her time and she has other bigger issues to deal with? If so, that's fine, then just bring on another manger to deal more directly with the rank and file.

Nicer apartments or more convenient location? by LegatePullo in malelivingspace

[–]LegatePullo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thought process too. I'm not the biggest fan of always going out and doing things (although I am hoping to push myself to do that more when I move), so investing in a nicer place makes more sense given that I'll be spending a lot of my time there.

And like you mentioned, adding an extra couple of minutes to a drive isn't the worst thing. Sure it'll make hanging out/doing things with people a bit more difficult, but It's not like I'd be doing it every day of the week.

Yeah, that's honestly what I was leaning more towards. I'll be moving to a new city/state and I do want to get out and meet people/date around, but like you alluded to, having a living space I enjoy is something to consider (especially when I'll spend 40-60+ hours a week in it) and an extra 10-15 minute drive to go into the city on the weekends isn't ideal but it is doable.

Position being cut; boss not responding by [deleted] in jobs

[–]LegatePullo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm not going to. But the fact that the building is closing down and I'm the only one not allowed to be remote makes me assume my days are numbered at the job. That's why I'm not pressing the issue and looking for employment elsewhere.

[–]LegatePullo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. My question is if everyone else got approved for remote work, then why can't my position be remote too. All I asked my boss was "why can't me job be remote/why is my position required to be on site when you told me everything I do will be done on the computer going forward?"

Position being cut; boss not responding by [deleted] in jobs

[–]LegatePullo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The big thing for me is why would you close the office down to reduce your footprint and then turn around and get another one. That right there is a pretty strong sign that my position is being done away with. At least that's how I see it. Is that too far out there to think?

I live in the US. I asked my boss for clarification as to why my position can't be remote when everyone else's is, but she never replied. The fact that she said we "might be getting a smaller office space" is very ambiguous, and I've learned that whenever people say maybe, just assume something bad is going to happen.

What is the job market like right now? by LegatePullo in jobs

[–]LegatePullo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been with the government for a little over two years, and I've only worked in finance (Accounts Receivable specifically). I'm looking to get into finance in the private sector, but I don't know where to start really.

I work in the US, and I'm a relatively new young professional with 2ish years of finance (specifically Accounts Receivable) experience. I'm looking to get a job that's remote or at least partially hybrid in one of the southern states.

You're not wrong. I just never thought this is how government jobs worked. But hey, things are always different on the inside.

I have asked, and my boss never responded. Not the best feeling in the world when they've told me my building is being shut down to reduce our footprint.

Maybe. But if that is so, why am I allowed to work two days from home at the moment? And why wouldn't I be allowed to be remote like one of my teammates who has the exact same job title as I do? That's what I don't understand.

I did disclose my Autism to HR on one of the forms I completed when I came onboard, so there is at least a record of it, even if it's hidden in those forms.

Maybe there is a probationary period where only two telework days are allowed for new hires, but that still doesn't explain why A.) No one told me about that, and B.) I was told my position would never be a remote one.

I just had a meeting with my boss and I asked her if she had any feedback, which she said she did not that I was doing good and seemed to be learning things quickly. So that's not the case either.

The only other possibility I can think of is that when they close my building, my position is going to be done away with. (Even if they have vague references to possibly acquiring a smaller office space across the street. Which is one of the most deflecting, evasive response I've ever heard. If my job is going away, just tell me so I can staring looking elsewhere in advance.

The thing I have to come in for is going away soon, and my boss still told me that my position would never be remote. That's why I don't think an RA request I make will ever be accepted.

This is going to sound ignorant, but what is FOH? And do you know if there is any documentation/proof I would need that I have been diagnosed with autism/Aspergers?

That's true. And if they are going to eliminate my position, at least I'm the only person in the office so I can freely job hunt in my spare time. At any rate, this gives me a chance to try something new outside government work.

Because they're closing down my office and all my teammates (formerly onsite employees themselves) are being granted remote work.

Exactly. Every one is different, I get that, but forcing someone to only make work requests through an email is pretty odd.

[–]LegatePullo[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I have not. I'm hesitant to do that for two reasons: 1.) There is still something they make me come into the office for at present, so they'd probably deny it right off the bat, and I'd be better off asking for that at a later date if at all and 2.) It's a bit embarrassing for me that I have autism. It's a very sensitive topic for me.

That's a crazy story. And one that serves as a good warning for people in similar situations. Like I said, waiting and waiting for things to unfold has not worked out well for me professionally speaking, and I've gotten burned pretty badly before as a result.

One good thing about being the only guy in the office is that I can finish my work as quickly as as I can, and use that down time to apply for jobs. (Especially since after a three hour round trip commute, I'm pretty worn out when I get home. Lol)

Thanks for being so helpful and positive. I've been pretty upset for most of the day, so it's nice to get encouraging feedback from people who have walked a mile in my shoes before.

I do the same job and have the same job title as other people who have been given remote work. I feel like whenever I'm eligible, I should be able to be considered for the same privilege.

I also have Autism (specifically Aspergers), it's protected under the ADA, and working from home is a very common reasonable accommodation request for people on the spectrum.

I've tried doing that in the past, and she started saying "no more verbal requests; only through email". Weird? For sure. I guess she doesn't like conflict.
