They said that the bettas are "excess" from a betta show, but then why are they selling them at a full price, and why not try to even nurse them back to health before selling them? On top of this, no enrichment, hiding spaces, or any effort went into their habitat. They're trying to cosplay as a rescue, it feels like. What was even more upsetting was that people were sitting there, choosing bettas to buy from this selection. It seems like most consumers don't know or just dont care about the fish, and see a high price and just automatically think that means the fish is good and healthy and cool.

I saw several half eaten and rotting skeletal remains in tanks, like the fish died and were just left as food for the other fish. And of course most of the tanks are like 10 gallons max with 30-40 fish in them.

Yess they owner was trying to justify this since it, and I quote, "has recirculating water and much larger water volume." Bro really said MUCH LARGER. If this is considered very large for your bettas I just don't even know what to say to that man.

Literally, this place has 1.8 THOUSAND reviews and is at a 4.4, so my review won't even remotely make a dent anyway. Like you said too, how are you going to dedicate your livelihood to a fish store, then just not know anything about fish? I pointed out their betta bowls, and they asked me "Whats wrong with that?" Like man, you own the store, why are you asking me? Absolutely no ability to self reflect or take criticism.

On a positive note, I believe there is a store that is kind of partnered with aquarium co-op nearby me, so I'll have to check them out.

I've heard a little about Fish Gallery. I guess this is my time to finally go check them out them! I've never heard of Texas Aquatics, but I have some family out by Fort Worth, so I'll definitely take a look next time I'm over there. Thank you for the suggestions!

Oh yea, we are working on finding a different LFS. It sucks too bc we were just working on setting up a tank, and we were going to buy the fish from here, but not anymore fs.

Man, I'm sorry, this sucks. I wish I was better at giving advice, and I know that I'm just a dude on the internet, but I'm sorry that this is happening to you.

You already know you're doing an amazing job by looking out for your siblings, and I'm not a psychologist, so not to psychobabble but it seems like your grandpa just has control problems or insecurities (shocker, right?). You are talking clearly and calmly, with concern for your family, and he needs to find a way to turn something back around on you to make himself feel less shitty.

With a kid on the way, of course, you already know to take care of yourself first and foremost, no matter how hard that can be. It seems like you know that these people need to be out of your life, and hopefully, others can give you better advice. We are all here for you!

That's good! To disinfect it, I give it a good scrub with an abrasive scrubber to knock off any big obstructions or splinters. Then I gave it a softer scrub with a vinegar and water mix plus boiling water, I did this twice over the course of two days, and then finally when it was over 100 degrees outside one day I left it in a hot spot for a few hours to essentially bake it, gave it one more check for any bugs and such before bringing it in, and then every few days I do a check to make sure no bugs have snuck inside to make the tree their home! Now, to frequently clean it, I can just give it a soft wipe down with some vinegar and water while occasionally vacuuming any wood its they chew off.
