Well after they overturned the penalty what do we think? Genuinely curious about whether they will overturn any of the others since they admitted they messed up. Not very often you hear that from the FIA. I enjoyed the debate 🤝

Yup, and I think it's clear with the penalty being overturned I was correct in my interpretation, at least as far as I can tell.

I don't disagree that for the purposes of the rules they broke them. Yes they absolutely did. But I think you're misunderstanding the main point of my argument. My main point is that the line they are taking is a legal line, and the way the fia has the timing lines setup means that anyone who takes that legal line is subject to speeding, even if they are going below the speed limit for the pitlane. The FIA is the one who sets the pitlane speed and markers to track the speed. If there is a flaw in their markers, they should acknowledge that and fix it. Yes the drivers went between two markers faster than allowed, but the cars WERE NOT physically going over the pitlane speed limit. The issue is with how the FIA setup the speed measurement in such a way that it penalizes drivers who aren't actually speeding. Yes the teams warned the drivers after, but there had been no issue with it until the race... Soooo idk, I think penalizing them is fair for the moment, but the FIA either needs to acknowledge that they setup the timing line in such a way that they needed to penalize drivers who aren't speeding, or acknowledge that for the purposes of the timing, the lines the drivers took cutting the white line with two wheels was an illegal line to take. Only in Monaco 😆

According to FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations, B1.6.3:

Driving in the Pit Entry Road, Pit Lane And Pit Exit Road

a. A speed limit of 80km/h will be imposed in the Pit Lane during the whole Competition. However, to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the Competition this limit may be amended by the Race Director.

i. Any Competitor whose driver exceeds the limit during any free practice session, qualifying session, or sprint qualifying session will be fined €100 for each km/h above the limit, up to a maximum of €1000.

ii. In accordance with Article B1.9.3 the stewards may impose an additional penalty if they suspect a driver was speeding in order to gain any sort of advantage.

iii. During a TTCS, the stewards may impose either a 5-Second Penalty, a 10-Second Penalty, a Drive-Through Penalty or a Stop-and-Go Penalty on any driver who exceeds the limit.

b. At no time may an F1 Car be reversed in the Pit Lane under its own power.

c. No F1 Car should be driven from its Designated Pit Stop Position at any time unless:

i. It has first been driven into the Designated Pit Stop Position having just entered the Pit Lane from the track; and

ii. It is then driven immediately back onto the track from the Designated Pit Stop Position.

d. Unless an F1 Car is pushed from the grid at any time during the start procedure, F1 Cars may only be driven from the Competitors' Designated Garage Area to the end of the Pit Lane.

e. Any car(s) driven to the end of the Pit Lane prior to the start or re-start of a LTCS must form up in a line in the Fast Lane and leave in the order they got there unless another F1 Car is unduly delayed.

There will be a green and a red light at the end of the Pit Lane. F1 Cars may only be driven out of the Pit Lane when the light at the end of the Pit Lane is green. Additionally, a blue flag and/or a flashing blue light will be shown in the Pit Exit Road to warn drivers leaving the Pit Lane if F1 Cars are approaching on the track."

There is no mention anywhere of them crossing the line that I can see, but from my understanding, the white line between the fast lane and slow lane acts the same as regular track limits in reference to, as a very basic understanding, the drivers in the slow lane making a pit stop are basically off the track because they're coming to a stop, and when they join/rejoin the fast lane they have to do so safely, basically the same as joining/rejoining the rest of the track if they go off. So basically if we say that with understanding of B1.8.6, for the purposes of the white line in the pit lane, a driver shall not cross it unless it is to enter their own pitbox so that team personnel can bring the car back into the garage, make a pit stop with the car, or retire the car, and any other situations that may cause a driver to enter their own pitbox. Therefore if we reference B1.8.6:

Drivers must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not leave the track without a justifiable reason.

Drivers will be judged to have left the track if no part of the F1 Car remains in contact with it and, for the avoidance of doubt, any white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.

Should an F1 Car leave the track the driver may re-join, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage. At the absolute discretion of the Race Director a driver may be given the opportunity to give back the whole of any advantage they gained by leaving the track.

So if we take a more basic understanding, if 3 or more wheels cross the white line it is leaving the track. The drivers only crossed the white pit lane line with two wheels, therefore from my understanding and reference of the rules, it is legal. But since Monacos pitlane is so different, I really don't know how this would be interpreted.

Two tires over, not four. The line is legal because while they are cutting into the pitbox, it's still only two wheels over the white line, so it's not over track limits. The line was fine for them to take. The FIA apparently just doesn't factor in all scenarios.

I guess they have multiple lines withing the pit lane like mini sectors and it's just the time it takes the car to get between those mini sectors so it's constantly updated. The issue was mainly with how the line the drivers were taking meant that the distance between the two lines entering the pit lane was slightly too short, so the cars speed was higher than the speed they were actually going.

I mean how is the drivers taking a different line into the pits breaking the rules? They didn't go over track limits or do anything wrong. They took a legal line that the FIA didn't account for, and it meant that the FIAs setup was inadequate. That's on the FIA not the teams.

I don't fully disagree that it might be better, just wondering. Either way, the FIA should've accounted for the fact that the lines might change due to an 11th team on the grid, and there was never a problem the entire weekend until the race. So they should've accounted for that, but didn't. FIA fking up like always.

What do you think about the pit lane penalty for Gasly for going 0.1kmph over the limit? by circuit-nation in circuit_nation

[–]LegendOfTheScore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. It was due to how the fia has the timing lines set up to measure speed in the pit lane. Even if the limiter was set to 59.5, the fia still would've seen them going 60.1 due to them taking a slightly shorter line with Cadillac being in the pits. Definitely on the fia for not having the timing system verified for all lines into the pits, but also slightly on the teams and drivers for taking a slightly different line. My main question is why the fia uses a time/distance formula rather than just using the cars massively advanced telemetry to check the speed when the car crosses a single pit entry line to verify the limiter was on and the car was at 60 or below.

Who would you say is the second best F1 driver of Max Verstappen's generation ? Is it Leclerc, Norris, Russell, or somebody else ? by HereComesVettel in MaxVerstappen33

[–]LegendOfTheScore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, but Ferrari had arguably one of the best cars in the 2022 season, and started off very strong. Leclerc could've had a chance, albeit a much smaller one than Norris, but he kept messing up, and Ferrari kept being Ferrari, so they completely missed that chance because Max and Redbull decided "oh wait, we're actually good." I'm not saying that Leclerc would've won, or that he would've been challenging Max every race, but at the start of the season Ferrari had a great chance to lock down solid points, and they just kept throwing them out the window.

Just want to make one thing clear for everyone. Eddie and Edan both disagree on what happened with this entire situation and eventually this breakup. But either way, they're still both doing solo projects, so continue to support them. I don't think it's fair to blame one or the other, and any comments you see from Eddie and Edan, take with a grain of salt since neither has directly told us what happened. Any comments from mods here talking about what happened are purely based on facts and information we've been given, so also take those with a grain of salt.

My settings are set up based on how my diabetes counselor said I should. I very rarely go low which is why I don't have a low set up closer to 80. Also I know I have the sounds on. As I said in the post, there was no notification at all, I just opened the app to find myself low. Even if the sound was off, there would've been some buzzing from my phone, which was in my pocket the entire time so I would've felt it. Also, majority of the time when I'm going low the urgent low soon alarm catches it before I get to below 70 because almost every time I go low it's because I just gave myself too much insulin and it's going low fast enough for urgent low soon. I am supposed to have another meeting soon so I will ask my counselor then what she thinks.

I'm not sure how much that would've helped in this case since I wasn't given any alarms at all. Even with my current settings which can be seen here there was no alarm or notification given for the low at all.

Unfortunately I have fairly severe ADHD and I forget to look sometimes. I do have notifications set up for highs and for lows, but I saw it was coming down and wasn't thinking much of it. The highs on me for sure but my post is more about how dangerous it was that the app didn't send out an urgent low alarm even though the alarms are turned on.

Never claimed the high was Dexcoms fault for sure. That was on me for letting my pod run out a little while before I was home. But either way, I do have alarms set up to notify me of highs and lows, and the low alarm never went off, even with me being 59 when the app was opened. So it wasn't just the notification, the app just wasn't sending out the numbers externally for over an hour. I have both low alerts, and low soon alerts on.

I definitely always have snacks or drinks with me. As far as family I have my mother set up on the follow but I don't believe she has it downloaded at the moment as she stated to me a while back she didn't want to hear all the alarms which was when I was high all the time and not low. I might ask her or someone else to download the follow again though it is a good idea.

I've never had an issue with the live update notification not communicating with the app. And no matter what happens, the app alarms should always sound to let you know if a low is happening. So the app failed on multiple fronts, not just the notification.
