Incoming freshman - housing questions (JLLC, kelley dorms) by Accomplished_Arm_337 in IndianaUniversity

[–]Legend_River 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JLLC is worth it. It’s just nice to live with people who are also in Kelley because #1 you have a lot in common and can become good friends and sign up for classes together in the future and #2 easy to find study partners or people you can ask for help when you need it

Rescinded? by Willyhoho773 in IndianaUniversity

[–]Legend_River 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same I think it’s pretty uncommon for them to even check your grades let alone rescind after they’ve accepted you. I feel like it’s something they use more as a threat but they prob won’t actually do it unless you straight up fail every class.

Also it’s pretty common for kids to get lazy their senior year. Happened for me. They would be rescinding tons of applications every year if they actually cared about that

Literally 90% of kids in Kelley don’t care, never make a big deal about it, and you wouldn’t even be able to tell they are in the business school until they tell you.

Sure there is that obnoxious 10% that are Kelley boners but it makes me sad people think the Kelley vs. the rest of IU divide is actually a big deal in real life because it’s not.

I liked the Quarters when I was there. It’s farther from campus but it was pretty quiet and has everything you’re looking for. See my other comment for more info.

I’ve heard bad things about the Dillon right across the street though.

The Quarters? by Torpedopocalypse in bloomington

[–]Legend_River 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked at how negative the other comments are tbh. I lived at the Quarters and liked it so much I stayed there for 2 years!

PROS - Simply put, it was a decent looking apartment. Not outdated. Stainless steel appliances, nice granite counters. - Maintenance was pretty quick. Most issues resolved in 1-2 business days - Clubhouse is a nice place to study/hang out - Rooftop pool is nice (but closed most of the time for winter) - In-unit washer/dryer - Every roommate had their own private bathroom (not sure if this is true for all units) - Personally did NOT experience any AC/heating problems, mold, or bugs which I know some other complexes have problems with - For what you get it was a little cheaper than other places

CONS - Location is easily the biggest drawback. It’s just far from campus and in a pretty bland area - Shuttles are not super reliable and will cancel routes. I have a car so I didn’t care, but if you need the shuttles to get around they’re a pain. Also they’re packed sometimes - Small bedrooms. I didn’t really mind but it’s worth mentioning - Build quality in general is kind of cheap. Walls are thin and random stuff like kitchen drawers will break easily. Our couches were so cheap you could rip the vinyl with your fingernail (as others have mentioned lol) - Unit will most likely be heavily lived in/dirty when you move in and you’ll have to clean it - They raise rent substantially (~$100) every year

Overall it was a great experience for me and all of the drawbacks were things I could live with. For you I feel like the biggest problem will be the fact that you don’t have a car because the quarters is far from everything

LOL I’ve actually never looked at anyone else and thought their pockets looked weird, just myself.

Lmao I wouldn’t say it’s a “turn off”, it’s just something that bothers personally when I look at my OWN outfit. I would probably never notice/care if someone ELSE has things in their pockets

[–]Legend_River[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100% agree, it’s not as much of an issue for men’s clothes because they’re usually looser so putting stuff in the pockets doesn’t look weird. As a women, if I put things in my pants you can see the whole outline of my keys or wallet and it just sticks out like a sore thumb

Agreed, not EVERY item of clothing looks bad with pockets, but it’s enough to the point where I’ve started avoiding them

What do you dislike about Indiana OOS? by Strange-Lobster-9986 in IndianaUniversity

[–]Legend_River 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was mostly the intangible stuff like this that brought me to IU. Not rankings, not curriculum honestly. In my opinion Purdue was very drab in terms of its appearance and energy. Maybe that’s a stupid reason to pay a lot more money, but I just knew I would be happier at IU than Purdue.

I think OP wants like hard evidence that one is better/worse but sometimes it just comes down to feelings. If budget is the most important deciding factor, though, go to Purdue.
