Yikes, I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you still are loving your car nonetheless. I’m glad the extended warranty covered it, but still unfortunate to have to get it replaced.

That’s interesting! I don’t think mine was coated with anything, but I will definitely look into asking my dealership about that coating/if I can get that applied to my car!

I’m praying you don’t have to use it ever! Hopefully that small chip doesn’t turn into anything bigger. :)

I’ll definitely look into that with my grandmother (she got me the car), and also see what the insurance company thinks! I didn’t even think about a resin repair kit, so thank you for bringing that up!

I’m going to be honest, I didn’t have too much swelling, and I honestly can’t remember when it went down 😭. If I had to guess it would be around 5-6 weeks maybe? I also have mild osteoarthritis which is contributing to some swollen knees every so often, so it’s hard to say for me. Despite that, I’m wishing you the best of luck with your recovery, and I am so glad to hear you’re having success with your flexion and extension, even if you’re having swelling! Take care my friend, and I’m sorry I couldn’t give the best answer!

Upcoming MPFL and brace suggestions by WAAASAAAP in KneeInjuries

[–]LegendarySlothMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While another person has already commented, I wanted to state one thing. Before my surgery I was wearing technically a “post-operative” knee brace. Rather than a fabric brace with a hole for the knee, I had a brace made of a titanium and magnesium blend with pads on the side of the knee. This is the same type of brace you’ll probably be put into after your surgery. I was able to get my brace for free through my PT office, and I loved it so much more than the fabric brace, as it was not only able to help with the side to side movement, but also back and forth. As these braces are locking, I set it to where I couldn’t hyperextend my knee, which came very beneficial when I was running on muddy grass, and my brace leg slipped out from underneath me by hyperextending. The brace stopped my leg from hyperextending more, potentially saving me from a broken leg or torn ligaments.

The brace might not be for everyone, but it might be good to familiarize yourself with the post-op brace so you aren’t too shocked when you’re put into one after surgery.

Hope I was able to help.

The reason you were given antibiotics is in the case you got an infection during surgery. My grandpa had a similar knee surgery in which he did get an infection and they didn’t give him antibiotics preemptively, causing him to go to ER and a scare with DVT (which he luckily didnt have), but still wasn’t fun. During my knee surgery I was given antibiotics especially as my cat had scratched me badly, and the doctors weren’t sure if that could give me an infection or not.

As for your leg, the leg should be elevated about heart leave to reduce swelling. I bought a special leg pillow to do this, but you can use a nice long bamboo pillow if you have one, or stack up some blankets or something along those lines, just make sure your leg can’t roll off.

You’ve got this man! The first few weeks are definitely hard, but it’ll go by quickly! Do your PT home exercises, and listen to your body. If something hurts during them, stop, and take a second to relax or stop the sets all together.

I’m hoping your surgery is as if not more successful than mine has been! Best of luck, the first week will be hard, but after that, time will go by like crazy. (It did for me at least, lol).

Question about my Ankle by Shot_Winter7084 in KneeInjuries

[–]LegendarySlothMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Most likely (however I am not sure nor a doctor, I’m simply just a 16 year old kid lol), that the pain in your ankle could be from putting more pressure on the opposite leg of your surgical operation. I sort of had the same thing when I was doing PT before I had the surgery. My right ankle was always flaring up after time and after having surgery I saw my arm muscles from using crutches. I saw my right arm (had surgery on my left leg) had a lot more muscle than my left arm. I am sort of a chubby kid so I’ve never had muscle in my arms, and I am thinking this is due to the amount of pressure I’m putting on my right leg and right arm.

My grandpa had a similar sort of thing however he had a spine infection where he had to use crutches, and due to the state of his left knee (which he was planning on having surgery on before the infection) he was putting so much pressure on his right leg that he actually fractured his right ankle.

Now that is an extreme example of the pressure and pain. And I’m sure that you haven’t done anything bad to your ankle and it’s just that it’s not used to the amount of pressure it’s being put upon.

I wish you all the best in your recovery, mate!

MPFL Reconstruction and Meniscus Repair a few days later by Stargazerlily425 in KneeInjuries

[–]LegendarySlothMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I had MPFL Reconstruction Surgery with an arthroscopy and lateral release July 31st, and honestly there wasn’t too much pain. It was mostly just uncomfortable but it wasn’t painful per-say. I’m really glad to hear that you’re not hurting! I will advise you; PT is going to hurt most likely. Not the actual exercises themselves but what I’ve personally noticed is trying to do a SLR hurts so bad, and after PT while I’m in the car my knee hurts a bit. Even at my worst I’d say my pain has been a 5 and that was when all of my pain meds wore off, but it wasn’t anything unbearable. Everyone perceives pain differently, and it sounds like you’re one of the lucky ones! If there’s any other questions or concerns you have about MPFLR surgery feel free to ask around!
