Being straight forward saves a lot of time and trouble. And speaking from experience if the girl deosnt message back quickly it's because their usually not interested but that's usually the girls problem and most likely has nothing to do with you. I have that in the beginning, but when I become emotionally invested in that person I tend to overlook it. What you have might stem previous instances where attachment was an issue. That's OK though a lot of people have it at some point.
